Inter's New Star: Italy's Biggest Clubs Are Already Regretting Letting This One Slip

Ange-Yoan Bonny may be a name that you are not yet familiar with, but we have a feeling that he could be Serie A's next breakout star.

After an impressive season with Parma last season, Bonny was snapped up by Inter over the summer. And while his career may still be in its infancy, the young French striker has already made a significant impact in Milan.

Quiet Rise, Sudden Spotlight

Bonny had come off a season at Parma where he featured regularly, showing enough quality in Serie A to earn a big switch, and understandably, the clubs began to circle.

A plethora of Italian giants were vying for his signature, as well as teams abroad; reports suggested that West Ham were heavily interested in signing him up. But ultimately, last season's Champions League runners-up won the race.

With a strike force already containing elite-level forwards in Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, the 21-year-old was always going to have a big job on his hands getting opportunities, with many assuming that a bit-part role would be on the cards to start out.

As predicted, game time has been at a premium, but with only 121 Serie A minutes under his belt this term, he has already contributed five goals. If he keeps it up, the fans will soon be demanding a starting berth for the young forward.

An Ideal First Start

You can only imagine the scenarios whirring through your head the night before you are due to start for Inter Milan, at the San Siro, for the first time.

Even in his wildest dreams, we don't think Bonny would have predicted how his first league start against Cremonese was going to transpire.

Inter ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, and who had a hand in all four goals? You guessed it, Bonny. In just 61 minutes on the pitch, Bonny managed to score and provide three assists.

If that is not the kind of performance that demands a starting place in the next match, then we don't know what is.

Consistency Is Key

Unfortunately for Bonny, you can't build an entire career off one game. If that were possible, then the likes of Reece Oxford, Federico Macheda, Adnan Januzaj, and Tom Davies would all be getting Ballon d'Or shouts.

The hardest part now is building consistency and proving that he deserves to be in the team. Not every game will be a Cremonese. There will be some games where he has four touches instead of four goal contributions.

But the best strikers keep showing up, and the good eventually outweighs the bad.

The best part about the Inter move is that he is under the guidance of two of Europe's best strikers every day in training.

Minutes may still be hard to come by, but at his current rate, he can only play second fiddle for so long. Regardless, he will be developing his craft alongside two of the very best in the business.

For Serie A fans, and even those who aren't, Bonny is definitely someone to put on your "One to Watch" list.
