Premier League Round-up: Matchweek 26

Potential title deciders and massive slip-ups headline this week's action. A look into what exactly went down during matchweek 26 in the Premier League.

Leicester City 0-4 Brentford

A 4-0 loss at the hands of Brentford would see Leicester City would make history, as they lost their sixth consecutive Premier League home match without scoring - the longest ever run by a top-flight side in a season.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy has managed to win just two of his 13 Premier League fixtures in charge of the Foxes, currently sitting 19th in the table with 17 points - five points from safety.

Yoane Wissa would continue his incredible form, scoring in the 17th minute of action to take his tally to 12 on the season. It wouldn't take long for Bretford to double their lead as Bryan Mbeumo would strike in the 27th minute. Goals from Christian Norgaard and Fabio Carvalho would see the Bees cruise to victory.

Leicester City fans would make their feelings clear as the full-time whistle was blown with the King Power Stadium ringing with boos after 90 minutes. Chants of ‘sack the board’ could be heard through the contest with a mass walkout taking place once Brentford's lead began to grow.

Van Niselrooy’s side have now lost ten of their last 11 games, having not scored a goal in 75 days.

Brentford sit 11th in the table following the dominant display, winning back-to-back league games for the first time this season.

Everton 2-2 Manchester United

A controversial VAR decision saw Manchester United leave Goodison Park with a draw.

Everton would take an early lead, thanks to Beto putting the ball in the back of the net following a goalmouth scramble - the striker's fifth goal in his last four matches.

Abdoulaye Doucoure would double the scoreline for David Moyes’ side in the 33rd minute taking advantage of a mistake from Onana to head home.

Everton would continue to control the game until a stunning free-kick from Bruno Fernandes would give United a lifeline with just over 20 minutes to go.

Manuel Ugarte’s volley eight minutes later completed the Red Devils’ comeback.

Controversy would follow in added time, as Ashley Young would be would be pulled down in the area by Matthijs de Ligt resulting in referee Andrew Madley calling for a penalty. However, VAR would overturn the decision.

Everton are unbeaten in six league matches under David Moyes, earning 14 points and sitting 14th in the table - 14 points above the relegation zone.

Manchester United continue to struggle, remaining 15th in the Premier League standings with 31 points.

Bournemouth 0-1 Wolves

A fourth goal in as many games for Matheus Cunha saw Wolves boost their survival hopes and dent Bournemouth’s Champions League charge.

A sending off for Bournemouth’s Illia Zabarnyi was an early indication of what was to come for the Cherries. The Ukrainian defender would receive a dismissal due to a shin-high tackle on Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Cunha would give Wolves the lead just five minutes after the sending off, lifting the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga in what was ultimately the winning goal.

The win creates a five point gap over the relegation zone for Wolves, having won two of their last three matches.

Bournemouth would have climbed into the top four with a win. The Cherries now sit 6th on the table with 43 points - one point behind 4th place.

Ipswich Town 1-4 Tottenham

A dominant performance sees Tottenham win their third straight match in the Premier League. Two goals from Brennan Johnson, assisted by Son Heung-min gave Spurs a comfortable lead 26 minutes into the game.

Ipswich would have chances early on through Liam Delap, who failed to convert before Omari Hutchinson pulled one back for the home side, getting on the end of a cross from former Tottenham man Jack Clarke.

Luke Woolfenden thought he levelled the scoring in the second half, however his first Premier League goal would be ruled out for offside.

Djed Spence continued to impress for Spurs this season, beating Alex Palmer with a deflected effort at goal - a first Premier League goal for the fullback.

Dejan Kulusevski added a fourth in the 84th minute with a curled effort from the edge of the box.

The three points sees Spurs remain 12th in the table. Ipswich stayed in the bottom three following the defeat, five points from safety.

Southampton 0-4 Brighton

Southampton look all but relegated following another disappointing display against Brighton.

Brighton didn't seem to struggle throughout the fixture, Joao Pedro gave the Seagulls a 1-0 lead heading into half-time with a delightful chip over Aaron Ramsdale.

Georginio Rutter’s finish from close range in the 56th minute put the game to bed before Kaoru Mitoma joined in on the scoring. A fifth goal in seven matches for the Japan international.

Jack Hinshelwood’s strike with eight minutes remaining confirmed Southampton’s 21st Premier League defeat of the season. The Saints have won two Premier League matches all season, sitting bottom of the table with just nine points.

Brighton will feel that they have a legit chance of playing European football next season. Fabian Hurzeler’s side sit 9th in the table, four points behind 4th place.

Arsenal 0-1 West Ham

Arsenal missed the chance to close the gap between themselves and league leaders Liverpool as West Ham secured a 1-0 upset at the Emirates Stadium.

A win for Arsenal would have moved them to within five points of Liverpool. However a Jarrod Bowen goal just before half-time would sink the Gunners.

Bowen would start and finish the attack for the Hammers, winning the ball before finding Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who got the better of Calafiori before picking out Bowen - a 50th Premier League goal for the England international.

Things would go from bad to worse for Arsenal in the second half, as Myles Lewis-Skelly would receive a red card for a professional foul on Mohammed Kudus. Having originally been given a yellow card, VAR would amend the referee’s decision by dismissing the 18-year old for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The win moved West Ham 13 points clear of the relegation zone, level on points with Manchester United.

Fulham 0-2 Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace walked away with all three points against Fulham at Craven Cottage. The fourth straight away victories for the Eagles - a Premier League record for the club.

Joachim Andersen had a return to forget against his former side as his own goal was enough to give Crystal Palace a cushion heading into the break.

Daniel Munoz would add a second for Glasner’s side, thanks to a piece of brilliance from Jean-Phillipe Mateta.

The French talisman picked the ball up from the edge of the Crystal Palace area before beating two players and find the Columbian fullback to tuck the winner home.

The win sees Crystal Palace sit in 13th with 33 points.

Fulham fail to get closer to the European places as the loss means they sit 10th in the table - four points behind the UEFA Conference League places.

Aston Villa 2-1 Chelsea

January signings Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford were the heroes for Aston Villa as they came back from 1-0 down to defeat Chelsea.

Chelsea would open the scoring early through Enzo Fernandez, who got on the end of a cross from Pedro Neto.

The Blues would fail to get a hold of the game with the lead and found themselves level with Villa in the 57th through Marco Asensio. The on-loan midfielder was in the right place to tap a Marcus Rashford cross into an empty net.

The two players would link up once again in the 89th minute, as Rashford would find Asensio from a short corner routine. The Spanish midfielders first time effort would slip through the fingers of Filip Jorgensen, whose mistake would prove to be costly.

The win means Aston Villa sit 8th in the Premier League standings - two points behind 4th place.

Chelsea have now lost three of their last four matches, falling to 7th in the table.

Newcastle United 4-3 Nottingham Forest

Callum Hudson-Odoi gave Forest an early lead before a hectic four minute period saw Newcastle score four goals before half-time.

Lewis Mikey and Jacob Murphy would score two minutes apart from each other to give Eddie Howe’s side the lead. Alexander Isak would convert a penalty in the 33rd minute to give Newcastle a two goal cushion.

The Swedish striker would add a fourth shortly, taking his tally to 19 goals on the season.

Isak has now scored 50 Premier League goals in 76 games.

Nikola Milenkovic pulled one back for Nottingham Forest in the second half, before Ryan Yates would give Newcastle a scare in the 90th minute to make it 4-3.

Nottingham Forest have now lost three of their last four Premier League matches.

Man City 0-2 Liverpool

Liverpool tightened their grip on the Premier League title, defeating Manchester City in rather comfortable fashion to go 11 points clear of 2nd place.

A training ground set piece routine from Arne Slot’s team saw them take the lead in the 14th minute through Mohamed Salah, taking his Premier League tally to 25 goals.

Having assisted Salah’s goal, Dominik Szoboszlai got himself on the scoresheet beating Ederson with a low finish.

City attempted to stage a comeback in the second half but were missing that cutting edge with the absence of Erling Haaland for the fixture.

Despite their best efforts Liverpool never looked like losing against the defending champions.

Manchester City remain 4th despite the loss but are now level on points with 5th placed Newcastle United.
