One of the greatest defenders of this generation is making a return to Europe. After spending 2 seasons in Brazil playing 66 games for Fluminense Thiago Silva has made his decision to leave the club and make a return to Europe before the World Cup.
Many clubs were notified about the 41-year-olds choice and were weighing up if they should sign him or not, such as his old club Chelsea, one club moved faster than the others and that was Portuguese giants Porto.

Agreement signed on short term deal for Thiago, new centre back for Farioli and strongly wanted by André Villas-Boas.

They currently sit at the top of the Liga Portugal with 40 points and having yet to lose a game however, with Sporting only 5 points behind them, it makes sense for them to sign a player such as Thiago Silva. The 41-year-old has been in many top teams and has won many trophies while playing at the top level and it looks like Porto will be hoping that his experience and cool head will help them in the second half of the season.
The main area that he will help a lot if the experience that they can lack. In the last 3 matches Porto have named a team with an average age of 24 years old and a team with this much youth and inexperience can have issues when it comes to tough times and seeing out seasons. While they haven’t gone through any tough times yet this season, they will more than likely face some and adding a player who’s been there and done that like Thiago Silva to help and support these young players is a very smart move.
Um ciclo que nunca foi fechado.

Agora sim 💙 De volta ao FC Porto para ser feliz 🤩#SeguimosJuntos pic.twitter.com/arbtZuRsEP
However, it’s not just a smart move for Porto as Thiago Silva gets a massive benefit of joining a club who is playing at the peak in Europe, while he might not play much, it still will allow him to be on the map and increase his chance of Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti picking him for the upcoming World Cup something he would love to be a part of as his final dance in football and trying to help his country win the World Cup as he closes his book in football as a player.
What do you rate this transfer out of 10? A good bit of business from Porto?
