Time to Take Them Serious... Can This Championship Side Do The Impossible?

In 2021 a team in Wales was doing well sitting around the promotion places in the National League. However, in 2021 they got a little taste of Hollywood as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McHlhenney took over the club. In their first season under the new ownership, they found themselves finishing second untimely failing to get promoted. However, that disappointment only lasted a season.

In the next season 2022/23, Wrexham did it, they finally managed to get promoted finishing the season with an incredible 111 points. They had fought their way into League Two and a lot of people would’ve expected them to stay there for a while if not get relegated back to National League. Wrexham and their owners had different views to everyone else. After spending £400,000 they were ready for the first step in the 4 leagues of English football. They did that with a bang. The end of the season they didn’t finish close to that drop or were even in the conversation, they were second. They had gotten back-to-back promotion from League Two to League One something very difficult to do.

However, they weren’t done yet. League One now, and another busy transfer window that saw them spend £5 mill. With half of that money being spent on the signing of striker Sam Smith. After another long season, they had yet another remarkable season. Second place on 92 points. They had done it, yet another automatic promotion was secured for Wrexham. However, now they found themselves in the hardest league that had played yet. The Championship.

The biggest transfer window that they had seen yet. £40 million was spent bring in new players to help them in this battle. The season didn’t start off the way that they would’ve wanted to. 2 matches 2 losses and 5 goals conceded. They had clearly found that this league wasn’t going to be easy, and it was showing on the pitch. However, that didn’t stop them.

After a draw against Sheffield Wednesday, they went on to win 4 out of the 5 next matches. Their form took a bit of a hit drawing the next 3 matches before finally seeing another loss against Stoke. The next 6 matches they would only see 1 loss 2 draws and 3 victories. The crowning jewel in this run was one of their wins. They saw high flying Coventry come to their stadium and Coventry left with nothing. Wrexham managed to see off the best team in the league 3-2 after going 1 behind. This win would boost them as they didn’t lose a game for 6 matches before Hull ended that streak.

They struggled a bit for 2 matches losing another and drawing however, they would then find themselves winning 4 on the bounce and even beating Premier League side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. While they then lost of Norwich after that match, they have confidence and have now won 2 and drawn one up until this point.

Wrexham is currently 6th in the Championship, having a spot in the promotion playoffs. So, can they actually do it? Can they be the first team to ever get back-to-back promotions from National League to the Premier League?

Can Wrexham Make History?

As it stands with Wrexham in 6th they would have to face Hull in the semi-finals. This isn’t an easy game for Wrexham. However, it isn’t impossible for them. This will put them one game away from history if they get the better of Hull. They would face either Ex-Premier-League side Ipswich or Millwall in the finals. Neither team is easy, however, Wrexham have that Hollywood magic. We will have to wait and see what the remaining 16 matches have in store for Wrexham and if they are able to fight their way all the way to the Premier League. If they do, there is no longer a choice to ignore them. They will be front and centre of everyone in the country to see how they do.
