Bayern’s Krätzig Signs One Year Loan Deal At VfB

FC Bayern’s youngster Frans Krätzig will join VfB Stuttgart on a one year loan basis with the option to buy at the end of the season.

The left-back joined Bayern at the age of 14 and has since played for all of their youth teams.

The 21-year-old made his debut in the Bundesliga in September 2023 and had a total of four appearances in the league as well as one in the Champions League and two in the DFB Pokal, where he scored his maiden goal for Bayern’s first team against Preußen Münster.

He left the club halfway through the season to join Austria Vienna on loan where he managed to gain more experience on the pitch with a first tier club and as a result helped them to qualify for the Champions League. The German youth international was a part of Vienna’s starting eleven and only missed one game due to a yellow-card suspension.

Stuttgart have now confirmed that he will not return to Bayern but instead join the Schwaben on loan for the upcoming season for a €500,000 fee, where he will reunite with coach Sebastian Hoeneß.

The two worked together a lot during his time at the Bayern youth teams and will therefore benefit from the already existing connection they have built.

While the Bundesliga runners-up from last year already have a good left-back in Maximilian Mittelstäadt who currently plays for Germany at the 2024 Euro, it will be interesting to see which role Krätzig will play in the team.

Going through Bayern’s academy, his main position has always been left-back but he also learned how to play as a central midfielder. During the DFB Pokal match against Preußen he took on the midfielder position and impressed with his goal.

In Stuttgart, ex Brighton player Mahmoud Dahoud currently plays as their starting midfielder and generally speaking, the squad has impressed last season with their great dynamics within the team when they reached their highest Bundesliga finish since 2006.

Therefore, Krätzig is not guaranteed a spot in Hoeneß’ starting formation but with his talent and flexibility, he will most likely be able to gain more experience than at Bayern.

About the transfer, he said: “Stuttgart are offering me the opportunity to further develop and learn from my new team-mates amid a superb set-up while getting playing time. That is what I am here for and that is what I am excited about.”
