Real Madrid look to be dipping their toes into the transfer market a couple of weeks early, and they seem to have set their sights on a 19-year-old EFL starlet.
The Spanish giants have been eyeing up some young talents across Europe to add to their already stacked roster, and they have seemed to head to the English second tier, where they have found a Tottenham youngster on loan at Portsmouth.
Min-Hyeok Yang is his name, and the South Korean winger is believed to be deep into the thoughts of Real Madrid’s hierarchy after playing his current football on the English south coast, for Portsmouth.

The 19-year-old, who has had a stellar impact so far at Pompey, could be heading to the Spanish capital for as little as £7 million – which is what Real Madrid may be willing to pay Spurs for the winger. Although there have been no concrete talks held just yet, Madrid are definitely keeping a close eye on the young winger.
So far, the Asian talent has made 13 appearances in the Championship this season and has recorded two goals and an assist but hasn’t been involved in a goal since October 18, against Leicester City which reflects Portsmouth’s own struggles in recent weeks. Yang also has a market value of £5.6m.
Prior to joining Spurs on a six-year deal in January 2025, Yang was playing domestic football in his home country of South Korea with Gangwon for the 2024 season, where he registered an impressive return of 12 goals and five assists. After moving to north London in January, Yang was swiftly moved out to Queen’s Park Rangers on loan where he managed two goals and an assist in 14 appearances before heading down to the south coast for this season’s campaign.
Standing at 5 foot 9 inches, it is no wonder why Pompey fans point out that his physique, and the physicality aspect of his game just isn’t there. He often gets shrugged off the ball by the tall, bulky second tier centre halves, who are proving to be too much for who, otherwise, is a very technically gifted winger.
Positionally, Yang always knows how to get into the right position at the right time, highlighted by his maiden goal for the club, in a 2-2 draw against Watford. In the highlights video, linked here, he finds an acre of space on the edge of the box and, when the ball is half-cleared by a Watford defender, he holds perfect composure to strike it perfectly into the goal. He reflected this just a few days later at home to Middlesbrough, where he latched onto a quick cross into the middle where again he was free on the edge of the 18-yard box to fire home what was a tidy finish.
Two weeks on from that goal, Yang found another impressive contribution against Leicester, where he picked the ball up on the halfway line before running at the Foxes defence, rounding two defenders before laying the ball off to John Swift, who equalised the scores.
These examples show that Yang is certainly one of the best wingers in the division when it comes to talking about his strengths. And one thing about the Spanish league, it is that the technically gifted wingers often shine and find more success since physicality is slightly less depended on. We have seen over the years many players with similar skill sets to Yang shine in Spain – Takefusa Kubo, Bryan Gil and Lamine Yamal to name a few.
Yang would fit Madrid to a tee, as his pace can be used and abused down the flanks, and his dribbling ability will enable Los Blancos to create space in important areas and help produce some quality opportunities. He does have his flaws, but going to the Spanish capital will help improve him tremendously and he is only 19 years old, so there is still plenty of time for him to develop into a world class winger.
