Mike Williamson Could Be In Trouble At MK Dons
The EFL League Two table is so often near impossible to predict. However one thing that nearly everybody had in common was the opinion that MK Dons would get promoted - or even win the league title.
However the start of the season hasn’t been kind to the side from Milton Keynes having only picked up 1 win from 4 games - losing on 3 occasions so far already. This leaving them sat in 19th place in the league.
And with this in mind I can’t help but think that Dons boss Mike Williamson could be in trouble. Potentially becoming the first manager to get sacked this season.
Here is why
So I KNOW we're only 4 games into the L2 season, but #MKDons have already lost 3, scoring only once in the process.

Is it a case of having an extremely progressive transfer window, and their new additions still needing time to gel?
Or are there bigger problems at MK?

Before being appointed manager of Milton Keynes Dons, Williamson was in charge of Gateshead having been appointed player manager in 2019 after the club's relegation to the eighth tier of English football.
Williamson would guide them to promotion in the 2021-22 season putting them back in the National League for the first time in 3 years following their demotion.
He would then manage the club for a season in the division finishing 14th place in the league but taking the side to an FA Trophy Final in 2023 - a game where they lost 1-0 to Halifax Town.
Williamson would leave the club in October 2023 with Gateshead sat in 6th place in the league - joining MK Dons.
To be fair to him he did well in his time at the club last season taking them from 16th place to a 4th place play offs finish. However MK Dons were battered by eventual playoff winners Crawley Town in the semi finals.

In his first job at Gateshead, he won the National League North and promotion back to the National League. He did this while implementing an attacking, possession-based style of play that was exciting to watch. 🏴⚪️ pic.twitter.com/cZWjKpMNwS
Last season Williamson did an incredible job at the club. To take them from 16th to 4th is incredibly impressive however the start to this campaign has been nothing short of dreadful. Especially with the projection that everyone has had for MK Dons.
The club should be near the top of the table battling for promotion even this early, or even fighting for the title and instead they sit just a point ahead of safety.
But the pressure won’t just be on because of poor results. The new owners of the club will surely be on his back as well.
At the beginning of last month, MK Dons were taken over by a Kuwait based consortium putting an end to Pete Winkelman’s 21 year reign of the club.
When new owners come into a club they often want to make an authoritative stamp on the club they join. And considering the expectation and the poor displays it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they pull the plug on Williamson sooner rather than later.

This in the hopes that they can turn around their form, much like they did when Williamson came in last season, and go for promotion once again.
