It was a night of wasted chances from the spot in UEFA World Cup qualifying, as Spain, Portugal, Italy and Norway all missed penalties.
In Spain's home clash with Georgia, Ferran Torres won the penalty as he was fouled by Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, with the Georgian shot-stopper quickly making amends by denying Torres from 12 yards.

Mateo Retegui was responsible for Italy, seeing his saved by Jacob Hein of Estonia after a less than conventional run-up.

Earlier in the afternoon, Manchester City star Erling Haaland had already missed a penalty for Norway in the very early stages against Israel - missing both attempts as the first one had to be retaken due to encroachment.

He was allowed to retake his first penalty due to encroachment yet he missed his second too.

And last of all came Cristiano Ronaldo, usually so reliable from 12 yards with 177 converted and only 33 missed, although this time he added to the latter tally in Portugal's game against the Republic of Ireland.

In the end though, none of the misses ended up costing their country, as all of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Norway claimed important victories on the road to the 2026 World Cup.
Spain beat Georgia 2-0 thanks to goals from Yeremy Pino and Euro final match winner Mikel Oyarzabal to remain top of Group E.
Italy downed Estonia 3-1, with Retegui eventually getting his goal, as the Italians look to hunt down Norway - who still lead them by six points in Group I.
Portugal limped across the line in their Group F fixture against the Republic of Ireland, after Ruben Neves broke the Irish resistance in the 90+1st minute to go five points clear at the top.
As for Norway, they cruised to a 5-0 demolition of Israel to move to 18 points from six games, with Haaland even bagging a hat-trick regardless of his missed penalty.
