Salford City’s League Two match against Oldham Athletic saw the first half interrupted in the strangest of circumstances, as two fans ran onto the pitch with a St. George’s cross while wearing a hoodie embroidered with the words “Neville is a traitor.”

The statement on the hoodie refers to Salford majority owner Gary Neville, who earlier this month came under fire for his comments regarding the Manchester shooting outside.
The ex-Manchester United and England right-back took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the acts of the shooters, but it was his words about who he thought was at fault for the attack which caused controversy.
Blaming the attack on “middle-aged white men putting up Union Jack flags”, Neville, whether intentionally or unintentionally, insulted and blamed a large demographic of England’s football-following population, including fans of the club he owns.
Neville faced serious backlash from the footballing and political community, coming under criticism for targeting a broad demographic, and creating extra controversy around what was already a serious, tragic event generating plenty of courage on it's own.
However, we have all seen it before - Gary Neville, always eager to wade in, gave his opinion in the damning X video and, for a brief while, made himself one of the most hated figures in the country for it.

It is clear that Salford fans have still not forgiven their owner - though the video was released just under two weeks ago, it is still fresh in the minds of the Salford faithful, with them seeing their owner’s words as a blemish on their own club.
The fans were allowed free reign on the field for a full minute or so before stewards eventually interferred and removed them from the field of play.
