Wednesday Wonderkids – Gessime Yassine Leads This Week's Pack of Young Stars

Another week of football has seen some of Europe's brightest wonderkids shine on the pitch. From Gessime Yassine setting the French stage alight with a wonderful performance vs Reims last night, to Marc Bernal dismantling Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey for Barcelona with a brace on the night.

These are some of Europe's youngest talents, playing in some of the best teams in the world and making it look like they are seasoned veterans. Players like these don't come around often, with such strong performances at such a young age not common.

Here at Football Park we are taking a look at the four top U21 performances in Europe over the last week. Enjoy!

Gessime Yassine

The 20-year-old Moroccan made his first start for Strasbourg in France last night and it was certainly a performance to remember. Despite not scoring or assisting, the youngster had a wonderful game and did not look out of place. Bear in mind he only joined Strasbourg on the 16th of January!

He has had a few weeks of training and they have clearly seen in training what we saw on the pitch, a player with tremendous talent at such a young age.

Playing on the right wing, he oozed class. Some of his deliveries into the box were magnificent and on another day he would be walking away with a few assists on his first start. He is only going to build on a performance like this, with more consistent starts to come in the future if he keeps putting in performances at this level.

Not only will his game only get better, but more eyes will be on the young lad and top European teams will start to sniff around at a potential transfer without a doubt. One to definitely keep an eye on is Chelsea. With Strasbourg being in the BlueCo model, transfers between the two clubs often operate with Strasbourg's top talents. Chelsea will definitely be wanting his signature if he keeps on performing. People online are already expecting Chelsea to make a move...

Davide Bartesaghi

Milan's latest wonderkid has been putting in fantastic performances at such a young age, with the 20-year-old Italian nailed down at the back for AC Milan. He has been starting week in, week out in Italy and has been only getting better with every start.

AC Milan has had some top defensive talents throughout history, with Bartesaghi seeming to be the latest one in a long list. Over the last week in particular, he has stepped up again. Strong in the tackle, calm in possession and more than willing to carry the ball forward when the space opens up. Modern fullbacks have to do everything now and he genuinely looks like he can. Defensively switched on, but also brave enough to overlap and put quality into the box.

Milan fans have seen legends in that back line over the years and they know quality when they see it. If Bartesaghi keeps progressing like this, he will not just be another academy product filling in. He will be a name that sticks around for a long time.

Konstantinos Karetsas

If there has ever been a young talent that has announced himself on the big stage recently, it has been Konstantinos Karetsas for Genk. The 18-year-old Greek forward has taken the Belgian top flight by storm over the last few weeks, and his latest string of goals and assists tells you everything you need to know about just how bright his future is.

He has been directly involved in goal after goal, not just popping up with finishes but creating chances for his teammates as well. In the last few fixtures alone he has put together an impressive tally that sees him not only scoring regularly but also racking up assists, showing he is more than just a goalscorer. There is a natural eye for the final pass in his game and that makes him a nightmare for defenders.

For a teenager playing in a physical, competitive league, that level of composure is rare. Genk look to have unearthed a special talent, and if Karetsas keeps performing like this, there will be interested clubs across Europe lining up sooner rather than later. Right now he is not just a wonderkid on paper. He is a match-winner.

Borussia Dortmund are known for bringing in younger talent and developing them into some of the greatest in world football; just take a look at Jude Bellingham for example... Dortmund is rumoured to be lining up for a move in the summer for the Greek talent.

Rokas Pukstas

The 21-year-old American has become a regular starter for Hajduk Split, showing real quality in both goals and overall play as the Croatian league campaign has heated up. He has been involved in a string of recent matches where his influence has been noticeable in how Hajduk control games, and he is now a key piece of their midfield engine.

Over the last few weeks Pukstas has found the net and shown real attacking intent from midfield, giving Hajduk much more than just defensive cover. He scored most recently for Split in February, 3 goals in his last five games!, reminding everyone of his eye for goal and ability to arrive late in the box, something that has become a real weapon in his game. His average performances have been solid too, with ratings showing he can impact matches beyond just the goals column.

On the international stage his work with the USA U21 setup also underlines how highly he is rated back home, giving him experience alongside his club exploits. At Hajduk Split, he is now indispensable. If he continues in this form, there will be plenty of clubs watching closely and wondering how soon they can get him across Europe.

Pape Moussa Fall

Pape Moussa Fall has been one of the most eye-catching young forwards in the Belgian Pro League this season. The 21-year-old Senegalese striker stands a colossal 6 foot 8, a physical presence that defenders simply can’t ignore and one of the tallest outfield players in European football.

He uses it to his advantage every game, winning aerial duels and creating chaos in the box with his sheer size and strength. His recent strike against Standard Liège was another example of his growing confidence and eye for goal. Fall has shown he is much more than just a big body in the box. He times his runs intelligently, positions himself well, and when the ball comes in the air, he often wins it first.

What makes his form even more impressive is that this is his first real taste of top-level football after a lengthy injury layoff. The way he has bounced back and contributed regularly is a real testament to his mentality.

There are still areas to sharpen, like link-up play and consistency, but the foundation of his game is very special. As the season goes on, that mixture of physical dominance and finishing instinct could see him catch the eye of clubs across Europe. For now, though, RAAL La Louvière have a genuine handful with one of the most unique forwards in the league.

Vasilije Kostov

Vasilije Kostov is not just another young prospect. At 17 years old, the Serbian midfielder has become one of Red Star Belgrade’s standout performers this season, and his numbers back that up in a huge way. He’s already recorded 12 goals and 6 assists across all competitions this campaign, showing an uncanny eye for both scoring and creating goals from midfield. That kind of output from someone so young and playing in a senior first team is rare and impressive.

He is certainly someone to watch out for in the summer... A certain Premier League club has already had a 20 million pound bid rejected ahead of a summer move. Arsenal have tried to get his signature early but Red Star aren't going to budge for anything less than a huge fee... they know the serious talent that they have on their hands.

Kostov’s season has been one of real progression. He has featured regularly in the Serbian SuperLiga and the Europa League, and rather than being eased in, he has taken on responsibility with maturity beyond his years. His goals have come in meaningful moments, and the way he carries himself on the pitch – constantly seeking the ball, driving play forward and linking attacks – makes him feel more like a seasoned professional than a teenager learning his trade.

What makes his rise even more compelling is the balance in his game. Kostov is not just a goalscorer; he is a creator too. Recording six assists demonstrates his vision and awareness – the ability to see passes others do not and to unlock defences in tight moments. That blend of goal threat and playmaking ability is what separates good midfielders from great ones.

This kind of form at such a young age has not gone unnoticed outside Serbia. Clubs across Europe are tracking his progress closely, with interest reported from Serie A and other top leagues, with questions about whether Arsenal will come back in with a higher bid. This will be a really interesting story to watch out for in the summer – all the news will be reported live here at Football Park!
