You won't believe this insane Phil Foden Premier League stat

20/05/24 07:25

After a pulsating 2023/24 Premier League campaign, it was Manchester City who clinched the title on Sunday afternoon, beating West Ham United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium. Despite a worthy challenge from both Arsenal and Liverpool for much of the season, two goals from Phil Foden alongside a third from Rodri made sure City claimed their fourth title in as many seasons. The feat is just one of many records that City have broken with their latest triumph, surpassing the previous best tally of three titles in a row which was set on two occasions by Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United. Here are some more of the most impressive statistics following yet another victorious season for the Citizens:

91 – Number of points won

For the fourth time under Pep Guardiola, City won 90 or more points in a Premier League season. This achievement has only been accomplished on ten other occasions, four were by teams that either beat or battled with a City side managed by the Spaniard.

15.8 – The number of games played per trophy won by Foden

After claiming the sixth Premier League title of his career, Foden now boasts a record of winning one trophy for every 15.8 games he has played on average during his senior City career. The Englishman has won a total of 17 trophies since first featuring in sky blue and is still only 23 years of age.

27 – Haaland wins the golden boot

With 27 league goals in 2023/24, Erling Haaland won his second successive Premier League golden boot. This record has only been achieved on three other occasions by foreign players (Thierry Henry, Robin van Persie, Mohamed Salah) and the Norwegian is the first to do it in each of his first two Premier League campaigns.

2.4 – Number of points per game in record-breaking run

During their run of winning four consecutive titles, City have averaged 2.4 points per game in Premier League matches. During this time, they have also amassed 359 points (49 more than anyone else), conceded just 125 goals (31 fewer than any other ever-present team) and boast a 73.7% win percentage.

35 – Matches unbeaten*

Perhaps the most impressive statistic of the bunch, avoiding a loss on the final day meant that City were unbeaten in 35 matches in all competitions, last losing against Aston Villa on December 6th. This is the longest run of any team in the Premier League era with the next highest tally set by Manchester United in the 1998/99 season when they went 33 matches unbeaten in all competitions.
