Wrexham v Birmingham City EFL Bet Builder: Top Picks & Selections

It's a bout that has all the hallmarks of a Hollywood classic... mainly because of the Hollywood owners and media scrutiny involved.

When Wrexham were taken over by the La-La-Land riches brought over by actors Rob McElhenney and and Ryan Reynolds in 2020, many were left wondering what may have come about. The end result? Three promotions on the spin, taking an ambitious aim to go from non-league football to the heights of the Premier League from being a pipe dream to a tangible end goal, all whilst being in front of the cameras.

Whilst the club aren't looking too likely to make it four from four, to accelerate into the top flight at a rate of knots, the foundations have been laid out amidst a strong flurry of spending to give the club a solid-looking first season back in the second division.

Birmingham, meanwhile, have also taken on a similar story under heavy investment from big American names. The most known of them all is NFL legend Tom Brady, who is part of the consortium that took over The Blues in August 2023. The club had been on a mediocre spiral through various Championship campaigns, and suffered relegation to League One at the end of that season in particular. After a heavy investment in the playing squad, the club flew back into the second tier towards more spending, which has helped the club keep hope in their hearts of a return to the Premier League one day.

With only seven points separating those in the play-off spots from the relegation zone, goals for the season are still very much taking shape. In this one, with both clubs staying hopeful of their dreams in mid-table, three points will be vital for all involved.

As El Documentico swings around, we've put together our best bets and bet builders for the coming clash. We'll talk you through our 3 banker choices, as well as three different bet builders of varying value and odds.

Football Park's Best Bets | Wrexham vs Birmingham City

Both Teams to Score - 1.80

Demarai Gray 2+ Shots - 1.90

Both Teams to Receive a Card - 1.25

Both To Strike in Hollwood Classic

The onus of the importance of this game to both sides is unlikely to be lost on either of them.

Both sides have seen the goals flow in plenty of their games across this season. Both teams have scored in nine out of Wrexham's 11 games in all competitions this season, whereas Birmingham have seen both teams score in a lower four from ten matches.

Though both teams hitting the net comes in less frequently for Birmingham City so far this season, both the occasion and their fortunes at both ends of the pitch should see both teams find joy in front of goal. The consistency of this line landing in Wrexham games specifically displays an onus in North Wales to have competence in front of goal, but remaining slightly leaky at key moments at the back.

Gray The Volume Shooter

Normally tipping player bets days before the game carries an air of risk involved, in case the player does not start, but Demarai Gray has been a constant in Chris Davies' side so far this season and will likely be called upon again in North Wales.

Furthermore, the lad loves a pop at goal, though to varying levels of success. Gray netted a dramatic late equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday in his last performance, not long after Lyndon Dykes had won it late in a previous bout with Swansea City. The Blues like to leave it late, don't they?

Amidst Birmingham's somewhat patchy recent form, Gray has loved an effort at goal from all angles. He has had two or more shots in four of his last five appearances, including a mighty four in that win over Swansea, and it will come as no surprise to see him in the same sort of mood against Wrexham.

Both Teams To Have Names Taken

This bout will come as something of a grudge match. Under the lights, the wider world watching on TV and obvious implications as the Championship's two Hollywood teams with lofty ambitions for this season and those forthcoming.

Even without the extra diceyness, a Wrexham player has been jotted in the ref's book in all but one of their games so far this season with their games traditionally open-ended and a touch scrappy, and the exact same can be said of Birmingham, who have again seen at least one of their players enter the book on all but one occasion this season.

The Value Choice - 3.40 Bet Builder

Coming in with our value bet, this is launched with four low-lying lines that look to hold solid value.

We take our prior mentions regarding Gray and his love of shots as well as both team's proficiency in getting themselves in the book, and couple that with a Jay Stansfield who has had at least one shot in every single game he has played so far this season, scoring four goals along the way. If you want to stretch this out a bit further, back him for more shots! He's had a mighty 14 efforts at goal in his last five appearances, including a whopping six (and a goal) in his last showing against Sheffield Wednesday.

And with the goals range, that particular range hasn't been breached in a single Birmingham game this season. Wrexham, with their love of open-ended fixtures, have seen it breached an impressive four times. However, this only brought the odds up for a line that holds promise. Four goals-worth of room is more than enough for both of these teams to enjoy what looks to be an open-ended fixture, without compromising on value.

The Hopeful Effort - 11.00 Bet Builder

For those more hopeful in Stansfield's shooting ability, have him for a shot that troubles the keeper. His return on this line is plenty lower than that of any type of shot, coming in just three times from 14 shots in his last five games, but he should get an ample amount of room to put those numbers to good use. And, go a little further on Gray's volume shooting and tip him to take on the full two efforts on goal.

This game is a vital clash for both sides, and we neutrals hope that both teams put caution to the wind. That can only present us with both teams finding the net, something customary in Wrexham matches, and one team coming away with a win that both sides will be desperate for.

And finally, Osayi-Samuel. The lad absolutely loves a foul lately, and will likely be coming up against the pace and trickery of Gray, if deployed on his favoured left wing. With Ethan Laird out with a hamstring issue for the next few months, he will be in line to start and follow in on his current run of fouls - five in his last three games.

The VERY Hopeful Effort - 67.00 Bet Builder

This is a bit silly, this one. So let us walk you through.

George has traditionally been kept quite a busy man in the engine room of Wrexham's team, making three or more (often the latter) tackles in four of his last five games. The midfield department will be a key aspect of this game, with Wrexham boasting some fine operators on that front, so expect the Englishman to get his hands dirty on Friday night. The same can be said for Osayi-Samuel, who has his fouls line upgraded to two in line with his having five fouls in his last three.

Lewis O'Brien has been a man in red-hot form for Wrexham recently, scoring or assisting in four of his last five games (there's a pattern emerging there) as one of Wrexham's star players. The former Nottingham Forest man has been relishing his more attacking role handed to him by Phil Parkinson, so if anyone is to have an impact on Friday, he would be a fine choice.

Don't fancy the reduced value of a Double Chance line? Back one or the other to go the whole 9 yards and take a crucial three points. The odds are almost identical for either team to take the spoils at full-time, but our personal preference is for the hosts to come away victorious. Prefer Birmingham? Go for them! It's your life.

Chuck on that esteemed Both Teams to Score line, and you're left with a hopeful effort from the halfway line that might just hold some surprising value on Friday evening.
