With a win for both side crucial in their efforts to progress into the Round of 16 in the Leagues Cup, Seattle and Nexaca go head to head in what should be a fiery match.
The Seattle Sounders left it very late to secure a two goal victory over Minnesota United in the previous round. Goals in the 87th and 90+4th minute from Morris and Rothrock respectively were the icing on the cake in a dominant display.
Domestically and Seattle have been solid. Barring their previous MLS match were Los Angels FC came out on top, The Sounders had not seen defeat since the 9th of June and fans expect that feat to be no different in this match.
The 10 games since that date have left Seattle with 8 victories, 1 loss and 1 draw. A stellar bit of form, proving assertive both defensively and offensively with a total of 18 goals scored and only 5 conceded in that run.
Sitting at the top of Group 6, the hosts will need a win to ensure their progression to the next round but it wouldn’t be the end of the world for them if they weren’t to do so. Having crashed out in the Group Stages this time last year with 0 points, Seattle have the opportunity to tip the scale on the opposite side and see themselves having won all points available to them.
Seattle were able to beat Minnesota United but unfortunately for Necaxa, they were not able to repeat the trick and suffered a 1-0 defeat when the two sides faced each other in Matchday 1 of Group 6.
Statically they dominated in all the right areas, having 14 shots on target to Minnesota’s 2 as well as seeing Minnesota centreback Hugo Bacharach sent off in the 20th minute, for instance. That match is now part of the 3 games that Necaxa have been unable to score in from 5 matches. Disappointing for them as they had a spell of scoring at least 1 goal a game for 16 games in a row before this poor run of form.
Necaxa have now only won just once across 6 matches across all competitions and subsequently sit bottom of Group 6, the gap of 3 points to second place Minnesota, meaning that if they don’t win this match against Seattle they will be knocked out of the tournament. The visitors have not performed well when on the road recently as in their last 5 attempts they have not won as the away team.
Our prediction for this match is for Seattle Sounders to Win. Necaxa are in awful for with Seattle being in such great form in contrast. Sounders striker Jordan Morris has scored 6 goals in his last 8 appearances, and he could be the key for them to go on and win this matchup.
