Every Premier League Red Card So Far This Season
There have been six red cards shown so far in the Premier League this season. Three of them have been from second yellow cards and the other three have been straight sending offs. Arsenal are the only team to have more than one player sent off, while 15 other teams have avoided having 10 men. Here is a look at every sending off so far this season.
Morgan Gibbs-White was given his marching orders late on in a fiery clash against Brighton on the South Coast last weekend for picking up a second yellow card. It initially looked as if he had won the ball when he slid in on Joao Pedro, as the referee Rob Jones gave a throw-in to the Seagulls.

However, after discussing the decision with his officials, it became clear that he did not get the ball, and the Englishman received a red. In the aftermath of that decision, Jones was also forced to send off both Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Brighton boss, Fabian Hurzeler. All three will miss their next matches.
In what is probably the most controversial moment of the season so far, Declan Rice was sent off for a second bookable offence when the Gunners faced Brighton just before the international break.
The English midfielder fouled Joel Veltman and then nudged the ball away whilst walking back into midfield. This happened at the same moment that Veltman appeared to try and take a quick freekick, resulting in the Brighton player to kick Rice. Chris Kavanagh sent Rice off for delaying the restart which caused outrage from the Arsenal dugout as well as on social media.
On the opening weekend of Premier League fixtures, Southampton travelled all the way to Newcastle to welcome themselves back to the top flight. After just 28 minutes, Newcastle defender Fabian Schar was dismissed for an altercation with Ben Brereton Diaz, the Southampton and Chilean forward.
Am I the only one that thinks this is a red card?🤣 theatrics aside I don’t see why there’s such outrage, schar throws his head in there and 99% of premier league footballers will do the same #saintsfc pic.twitter.com/46Dwj6tYXY

It appeared as if Schar had moved his head into Brereton Diaz after a coming together, but the Saints’ man gave an Oscar worthy performance as the two barely touched. Craig Pawson gave Schar a red card and Newcastle had to dig in with 10 men for most of the game. They managed to walk away with three points, but Schar was a big miss for the next few games.
There were no real complaints for this red card, as Southampton captain Jack Stephens was dismissed for a lunging, off the floor tackle on winger Alejandro Garnacho. While his studs didn’t make contact with the youngster, the challenge was definitely out of control and so there was no other alternative than a sending off.
At that point in the match, Southampton were already two goals down, and it didn’t get any better for them. Garnacho scored in the last minute to make it 3-0 and leave Southampton second bottom of the league with no points and just a single goal. They have since drawn their subsequent match to get them off the mark, but they look like they will be in trouble this season.
Arsenal’s second red card of this season came last weekend, for the exact same offence as Rice’s. Arsenal were 2-1 up when Leandro Trossard committed a foul and then kicked the ball away less than a two seconds after the whistle had gone, while the ball was still bouncing and so obviously not stopping Manchester City from taking the freekick quickly. The sending off means he will not be available in the Carabao Cup against Bolton.

They went on to defend in a low block for the rest of the game and almost walked away with a win, but John Stones scored in the last minute to give City a deserved point. Mikel Arteta was once again furious with the decision, but said he was happy with how his team performed.
Brighton, despite not seeing red so far this season, have played against 10 men on three separate occasions out of their five games so far. They travelled to Everton on the opening day of the season and ran out 3-0 winners, with the final goal coming after Ashley Young was sent off for fouling Kaoru Mitoma as the last man.
Young brought the ball down on his chest but it was then stolen from him by Mitoma who broke through on goal only to be pulled down by the English veteran. There were little complaints from the Everton players as he made his way off the pitch. The Toffees have struggled so far this season and part of the reason behind this has been the lack of depth at the back, not helped by Young’s dismissal.
