Premier League Christmas Countdown: Brentford
Everyday, from now until Christmas Eve, we will take a look at a Premier League club and rate their season so far. Today, it is Brentford’s turn to be put under the microscope as we continue our Premier League Christmas Countdown.
Predicting where teams will finish in mid-table and the lower European spots this season is incredibly difficult, but I have decided that I think Brentford could drop off and finish in 12th place. So far this season they have been exceptional at home, but their away form has been inconsistent at best.
Brentford’s season started off with home games against Crystal Palace and Southampton and away games against Liverpool and Manchester City, so it is understandable as to why many think that Brentford have this super special home record. While their results at the G-Tech Community Stadium have been positive, the best team they have faced at home this season is Newcastle.

As expected, they beat Crystal Palace and Southampton with relative ease, and were beaten by Liverpool and Manchester City. The City game started a short trend of Brentford scoring within the first minute that lasted a couple of games.
In every game in September, Brentford scored in the first minute, before not scoring again in the whole game. This included the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City, the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham and the 1-1 draw at home to West Ham.

In October, the goals came thick and fast, especially at home. Their first match of the month was against Wolves, and the game ended 5-3 to the Bees. All of the goals in that game either came in the first half, or within the last few minutes of the match. After a 2-1 away defeat to Manchester United, Brentford were involved in another thrilling match at home, beating Ipswich 4-3 thanks to a 96th minute goal from Bryan Mbeumo.
November changed nothing for Brentford. They continued to put on a show at home while struggling away from home. They beat Bournemouth 3-2, coming back from a goal down twice, but not before they were beaten by Fulham at Craven Cottage thanks to two late Harry Wilson goals.

It is almost as if Brentford’s games are getting incredibly predictable, as they, after scoring three against Bournemouth, failed to find the back of the net away against Everton in a 0-0 draw. They then returned home to batter Leicester 4-1 with a Kevin Schade hattrick.
December has once again been the same. In their two matches so far, they have lost 3-1 against Aston Villa before beating Newcastle 4-2 at home, completing the set of teams that they have beaten in the Premier League.
It comes as no surprise that, given Brentford’s goal scoring record, there are multiple players on a respectable number of goals for where we are at in the season. Both Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa have nine goals this season and Schade has four. Despite this, I think Mikkel Damsgaard has been Brentford’s best player this season. Having been struck by injury after injury in his Premier League career so far, this season he is finally showing his worth and has two goals and five assists in this campaign.
Season Rank: B
End of Season Prediction: 12th
