The Next Neal Maupay? The Premier League's Newest Sh*thouse Who's Left Fans Fuming

All Hail The New Sh*thouse King, Thierno Barry

Everton's transfer business in the summer saw them lose their French shithouse striker that made a career out of irritating opposition fans, even when his goalscoring started running dry.

No need to fear for the Toffees though, as they replaced him in the very same window with a young French shithouse striker that has suffered his own goalscoring drought this season, yet he's had a completely contrasting effect on Premier League fans.

Instead of earning the same reputation as the infamous Neal Maupay, most of us seem to love Thierno Barry.

Of course, there were many of us who used to love Maupay for his antics, right up until he would produce the most infuriating act of ragebait on our own clubs, at which point we were sick of the sight of him.

With that in mind, if you're a fan of Aston Villa or Nottingham Forest, then you're well within your rights for Barry to have become public enemy number one this season.

Who Needs Maupay?

The French U-21 international hasn't indulged in the on-pitch antics that Neal Maupay enjoyed. Well for the most part at least...

The now-Marseille striker certainly rustled a few feathers in the Premier League, namely mocking James Maddison's darts celebration with one of his own, before posting on social media:

“Gutted we couldn’t get the win. More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison. We go again monday bees 🐝🫡”

He even managed to cause a stir within his own fanbase while out on loan at Marseille last season, who he now plays for on a permanent deal.

Amid a breakdown in relationship with his parent club, Maupay took to X following a 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest:

"Whenever I'm having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile."

The Toffees got the last laugh, though, as he isn't even getting a look in under Roberto De Zerbi, and has played a total of one minute of football in Ligue Un. Ouch.

Everton fans will be eager for Barry to avoid following in the same footsteps, but he has already scored more goals for Everton than his predecessor, who netted just one Premier League goal in 29 appearances, so I'm sure they're much more fond of their new man.

He hasn't been a regular goalscorer, but when he does find the back of the net, he makes sure the opposition know about it on social media after the game.

His latest escapade followed his goal against Villa to halt them in their chase of Arsenal at the top of the table, a game that Everton won 1-0 off the back of a resolute defensive performance.

He tagged the location of his Instagram post about the goal to 'Barry Park' as opposed to Villa Park. Class.

Just a few weeks earlier came his first real instance of embracing his cheeky nature to get a rise out of opposition fans, when he scored against Nottingham Forest in their 2-0 win at the City Ground.

The goal was just his second for the club having signed in the summer, and what made it all the funnier was that his first goal, which only came three weeks prior, was also against Forest.

Waiting all the way into December for his first goal didn't deter him from making a little jab about how his only two goals had come against the same opposition...

Perhaps it's the pure nerve of it that infuriated Forest fans, and why everyone else thinks the lad is absolutely hilarious.

More To Come?

Barry has been hitting goalscoring form lately, in comparison to the first half of the season that he had endured at least.

He's gone on to score twice more since the Forest post, one of which came against Brentford, who are currently the only club in English football that Barry has scored against and not mocked on social media after.

Admittedly that is because the only other clubs he has scored against are Villa and Forest, but who's counting, right?

After going so long without a goal, he has now put himself on the scoresheet in three of his last four Premier League appearances, helping Everton towards one of their best seasons in years following their long and continuous slump.

With the Toffees in 10th and only three points behind fifth place Man United, there's plenty of hope that the ex-Villarreal striker will maintain his eye for goal for the rest of the season, primarily so we can see who he targets next.

As a fan of an EFL club, I'm so glad that I don't have to worry about this lad embarrassing my club, so good luck to you lot in the Prem who could be Barry's next victims.

That said, I remember when Jamie Vardy scored a penalty against my club in the Championship a couple of years ago, only for him to run the length of the pitch to come and celebrate in front of our away fans. Victims of shithousery, I sympathise with you.
