Why This Mysterious Signing Could Transform One Team's Season

Blackburn Rovers find themselves in troubled waters - nine games into the Championship season, the side are already sitting in the relegation zone. Six losses, one draw, and just two wins have left the side on a measly 7 points thus far.

Something needs to change, and fast.

Enter Moussa Baradji.

The French midfielder, signed on loan from Swiss side Yverdon-Sport during the summer window, has yet to make an appearance in a Rovers shirt due to being sidelined with an injury. Now, his long-awaited return is on the horizon, and excitement is building amongst fans. Could Baradji be the spark Blackburn so desperately needs?

Baradji The Saviour?

Born in France but of Malian descent, Moussa Baradji is 24 years old. Playing in the Swiss league for the last 2 seasons, he is a central midfielder who is prone to going forward. The 2024/25 season saw him make 27 league appearances, scoring 4 goals and notching 3 assists.

Baradji stands at 6 ft tall, not all that tall for a commanding centre back. However, his lanky frame allows him to be an asset defensively as well as offensively. When looking at his stats in the 2024/25 Swiss Super League, Baradji made 176 recoveries, 72 tackles, and won 238 duels. Furthermore, the player made 23 interceptions, proving that he can be a nuisance to any side's attack.

Baradji also boasts a decent passing range. Last season, he achieved 662 successful passes and had a pass accuracy of 75.7%. From this, 44 of his passes were long balls, showing how he is able to split the opposition's defence from deep.

A bright spark in the midfield, the Rovers fought off multiple big suitors to secure the signing of Baradji. His "Rolls-Royce" style of play may just be the differential for Blackburn this season, and he could be the catalyst that vaults their season into gear.

Rovers Renaissance On The Cards?

This season, Blackburn have seen 13 find the back of their own net. While their squad has some proven experience in it through the likes of defensive midfielder Adam Forshaw, this hasn't been enough to stop the onslaught from the opposition. Baradji will no doubt help the side defensively, but he could also be an anomaly for them in attack.

Blackburn Rovers are sleeping giants; once champions of England and Europe, they have not seen Premier League football at Ewood Park since 2012. In what has been over a decade, Blackburn dropped as low as League One in 2017.

Gaining some form of stability over recent years, the Rovers narrowly missed out on a play-off spot last season, finishing 7th. This season's start has been poor, however, suggesting they have struggled to build on the momentum from last season, and things need to change fast so as to avoid another upset.

French manager Valerien Ismael is at the helm. The former West Brom and Watford manager has faced criticism from pundits and fans alike, but perhaps the full integration of his fellow countryman Baradji into the squad can provide some much-needed optimism for the fans and the team, and help recapture the excitement and promise of last season.
