2025/26 Enterprise National League MW9 Review

This weekend's action provided huge results that alter the order at the top of the league, with Rochdale leap-frogging Robbie Savage's Forest Green Rovers with a game in hand.

At the foot of the table, an eight-goal spectacle took place between hindered Morcambe away at Solihull Moors and a mistake-filled match between Wealdstone and Gateshead played out in London.

Here is Football Park's overview of the Saturday-just-gone's action:

Yeovil Town 1-0 Woking

Richard Dryden's final game in charge of The Glovers before Danny Webb takes the reins ended 1-0 with a goal in the dying embers against Woking at Huish Park.

With Junior Morias knocking on the door throughout and defender Morgan Williams firing over from close range in the second half, eventually Luke McCormick latched on to a Jake Wannell knockdown and secured an important three points for Yeovil.

Woking's four-game unbeaten streak comes to an end, and they find themselves 18th in the league whilst Yeovil jump to 15th.

Truro 0-1 Rochdale

Alarm bells continue to ring for Truro as they fell short against travelling Rochdale, who now find themselves top of the National League following an early Kyron Gordon goal that saw them make the long journey back up North with all three points.

It must be said that the goal was incredibly scrappy, but a nod towards the net from the sitting Gordon was enough to creep past Tinners goalkeeper Aidan Stone and give The Dale an early advantage.

Truro stay 23rd with only one victory this season, only held back from the foot of the table by Morecambe, whilst Rochdale currently pip Forest Green Rovers to 1st on goal difference.

Sutton 2-3 Tamworth

The Lambs' trip to South-West London resulted in their third win in their previous four National League outings, with a Lewis Simper double being cancelled out in a first-half thriller that saw all five goals coming in the opening 38 minutes.

Just after the ten-minute mark, the scoring was opened following a misplaced back pass, forcing Sutton keeper Jack Sims into a mistake and giving away a penalty. Another goal from a Tyler Roberts header and a third slid in from Manny Duku registered Simper’s brace void and sealed the win for Tamworth.

Sutton's struggles continue down in 22nd place, whilst Tamworth secure 10th for now.

### Hartlepool 0-0 Brackley Town

The spoils were shared after a goalless draw played out in County Durham. Both sides have now accumulated four draws each in their previous five National League fixtures.

Following a dull 45 minutes of half-chances, the visitors had a handful of big chances to go ahead in the second half, but the pick of the bunch came in the 90+10th minute, when the travelling Brackley contingent were prematurely sent into raptures after a marginally offside shot from The Saints’ Morgan Roberts bundled in but denied by the flag, and thus a point for each team was to be the outcome.

Hartlepool slide to 8th place in the league, and last year’s National League North champions Brackley subtly increases their advantage over any league strugglers.

Boreham Wood 3-1 Altrincham

The Wood saw off Altrincham with a dominant first-half performance, scoring three successive goals and denying Altrincham a third league win on the trot.

Superb link-up play between the two Boreham Wood goalscorers saw Zak Brunt set up Erico Sousa’s first of the game, with his second coming ten minutes after, and a Brunt penalty before half-time put The Wood in the driver's seat for the remainder of the match. A spectacular Jimmy Knowles strike gave Altrincham a way back in, but Finlay Herrick's heroics in goal eventually closed the door for the visitors.

Boreham Wood overtake Scunthorpe into 5th, with Altrincham falling behind Tamworth, dropping to 11th.

Braintree 2-3 York City

Stewart Maynard makes it three wins in three games in charge of York in their pursuit of the National League front runners. A dramatic five-goal thriller unfolded in Essex, with Braintree just falling short.

An early opener from Braintree’s Terrell Works in the driving rain and a similar first-time finish before half-time put the hosts two goals to the better at the break. A delightful Alex Hunt free kick and a 77th-minute equalising header from Joe Grey levelled the scoring before last year’s National League player of the year sealed The Iron’s fate with a late penalty.

The unbeaten Minstermen claim 6th place in the National League in their bid to go one step further than last year and win promotion. Braintree painfully continue their bad form, keeping them in 21st.

Southend United 1-1 Boston United

The Shrimpers welcomed Boston United to Roots Hall, where a goal for either side in the last ten minutes meant a stalemate, delaying Southend’s attempts to make up for last season’s Wembley heartbreak.

Pilgrims defender Zak Mils broke the deadlock in the 81st minute after the ball fell to him on the penalty spot and he converted coolly, before Southend substitute Oli Coker was brought down in the box three minutes later, allowing Andrew Dallas to score from the spot to bring the score back level. Shouts for handball from the home crowd in the 90th minute were deemed futile, and a very late dangerous Dallas attempt was blocked virtually on the line.

The Shrimpers find themselves in 4th place, three points behind league leaders Rochdale, whilst Boston are 19th, level on points with Woking.

Carlisle 2-0 Aldershot Town

The prolific National League top goalscorer Regan Linney struck again to gain Carlisle’s sixth win of the season in their hunt for Rochdale and Robbie Savage’s Forest Green Rovers, whilst Aldershot fall short once more.

The Shots’ survival of an early Carlisle barrage that included a free kick and an audacious overhead kick was later void as Linney burst through Aldershot’s defensive line and guided a shot past the rushing former Cumbrian Marcus Dewhurst. Bevis Mugabe, with his back towards the goal, swivelled and doubled Carlisle’s lead with a finish into the bottom right corner.

Mark Hughes’ Cumbrians retain 3rd spot with the league’s highest goal difference, and Aldershot slip to 16th.

Solihull Moors 4-4 Morecambe

In an immensely important game for both sides, a blockbuster of a game was produced in which both sides came away with a point each.

An off-balance Jamey Osbourne netted to begin the bombardment of goals at both ends, an outrageous strike from Jack Nolan, half an hour into the game, levelled things, and a second consecutive brace from Jacob Wakeling, matched by The Shrips’ Admiral Muskwe, added for either side. The pick of the bunch has to be from Miguel Azeez, following a Solihull equaliser courtesy of Bradley Nicholson, the man recently ridiculed on X for his fashion choices certainly wanted to hit back, as his 75th-minute strike from distance rocketed into the top right, but was agonisingly not enough for all three points on this occasion.

Ashvir Singh Joval’s side, although with three games in hand, still emerge from this weekend at the foot of the table in 24th, whilst Solihull’s point is only good enough for 20th place.

Forest Green Rovers 1-1 Scunthorpe

Late drama spares the blushes of Robbie Savage’s Green’s at home to Scunthorpe, which carries on their unbeaten start to the season and bid to become National League champions.

There were a whopping 96 minutes between the two goals scored in this titanic clash between two promotion hopefuls. Declan Howe nodded in for Scunthorpe after two minutes, but that was soon cancelled out by James Balagizi, who poked home following a spill from the Iron goalkeeper Rory Watson in the 98th minute in dramatic fashion.

Forest Green Rovers, despite late heroics, drop a place to 2nd place following Rochdale’s away win to Truro City, whilst Scunthorpe now sit in 7th place.

Wealdstone 2-2 Gateshead

The Tynsiders’ trip to London resulted in just a point after a late Wealdstone goal cancelled out a Kain Adom brace in a match riddled with keeper mistakes.

Gateshead goalie George Shelvey rifled the ball against the pressing Dominic Hutchinson, who inadvertently gave Wealdstone the lead before Adom equalised just before half-time with a smart near-post finish. The visitors were next to score in the 79th minute, again courtesy of Adom after a miscommunication from the Stones’ keeper Dante Baptiste, and former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Anthony Georgiou gift-wrapped an Adom brace.

A comical Wealdstone leveller came late on as Shelvey saved a brilliant Nathan Tshikuna strike, he then looked to turn around and stare down the home support, thinking the ball was out of play before Max Kretzschmar pounced on the keeper’s bewilderment and slotted home from a tight angle.

The Royals remain two points and three places ahead of Gateshead in 9th, with The Head in 12th.

Halifax Town 2-2 Eastleigh

A tale of two halves played out in West Yorkshire as the visitors scored two fine finishes in the first half, eventually cancelled out late on by The Shaymen.

The young Zavier Massiah-Edwards struck first with a tidy finish past Halifax number one Sam Johnson and a well-worked free-kick routine finished off by Spitfires defender Luis Fernandez. It took until the 82nd minute when the home side got their first through Owen Davenport, and Thierry Latty-Fairweather beat Nick Townsend at his near post five minutes later to grab an equaliser for The Shaymen.

Both sides remain in the bottom half of the table, with Halifax behind in 17th and Eastleigh with a game in hand in 14th.
