For any football fan who follows their team up and down the country, that frustrating hum of the car, coach, train and beer bottles clanking in black off-license carrier bags corrupts the mind long after the weekend is over; for some Truro fans, that will be longer.
On Saturday, 78 Tinners made the SIXTEEN-hour-long, 880-mile round trip from deep in the South-West of England in Cornwall, all the way up to Cumbria to face Carlisle in the National League. This journey broke the record for the furthest English away day.
👊 Another record broken tomorrow...

✅ The longest trip ever for an English league game.
😬 (until we face Gateshead in October)

This match-up smashes the previous record set by Plymouth's visit to Tyneside to face Newcastle in a 3-0 loss by 48 miles. High-flying Carlisle were not having mercy on the weary travellers, as Mark Hughes' side put Truro to the sword at Brunton Park.
Three goals from The Cumbrians secured all three points, as August player of the month nominees Regan Linney and Luke Armstrong's goals either side of half-time solidified Truro's fate and added to their flood of woes at the beginning of their maiden National League season since getting promoted from the National League South last season as champions.
Meanwhile, Carlisle continued their stride in returning to the Football League alongside a fifth clean sheet of the season after only eight games, guided by one of Carlisle's own, young Gabe Breeze.
Considering what you feel constitutes 'consolation', Carslisle kindly gifted the loyal and committed away support a free drink and pie token! A nice gesture that hopefully helped soften the blow of the defeat so far from home.

Annoyingly, playing far away from their home city is not out of the ordinary for The Tinners and not always for away games. Following ground shares with the likes of Rivals Torquay, Plymouth Parkway, Taunton Town and most recently Gloucester City, Truro are no strangers to travel to say the least.
Gloucester City hosted Truro for the conclusion of the 2023/2024 season after complications with fixture build-up, breaking up the deal with Plymouth Parkway and problems with Taunton's surface becoming unfit to host. This caused Tinners' fans to make a 400-mile round trip to Meadow Park for a home match!
Although jubilant, the shoe will be on the other foot for Carlisle fans come the conclusion of the season, as The Blues trek down to Cornwall and face the near 900-mile trip to Cornwall, and it just could be decisive in their bid for promotion.
However, unbelievable as it may be, the record for the longest English away game is going to be broken again next month. On the 25th October, Truro faithful will need to regather and go again, for a 914-mile round trip to Gateshead!

The Tynesiders welcome Truro for yet another record-breaking fixture, and currently mid-table Gateshead will be hoping to brush the Cornish club aside in hopes of going one step further than last season, after narrowly missing out on a play-off position.
Any fan making that journey deserves recognition and will likely receive it from both the club and football fans up and down the country. They'll also be hoping for another merited free food item and drink upon their arrival.
