THREE EFL Clubs Ready to Enter Bidding War for Celtic Winger

Celtic Star Weighing Up EFL Move With Multiple Clubs Interested

The Scottish top flight has seen countless stars move south to the English Football League, and it is fair to say that they had mixed success. Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and John McGinn proved to be instant hits, but the likes of Kiernan Tierney and Gary Hooper had a tougher time of things, so much so that the former has returned to Scotland, and the latter now plays in the Isthmian League.

However, the Scotland-to-England saga shows no sign of slowing down, with English clubs always on the lookout for a high-quality bargain from their northern neighbours, and it looks as if another chapter in the story is soon to be written.

Recent reports have circulated that Celtic and South Korean winger Hyun-Jun Yang is set to make a move to the second tier of English football in January, with both Birmingham and Norwich City poised to submit a bid.

Who is Hyun-Jun Yang?

Celtic have always had a strong affiliation for players from eastern Asia - Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi and Shunsuke Nakamura have all been success stories at Celtic Park - and Yang promised to be just the next chapter in that story when he was signed in 2023.

However, in his two and a half seasons at the club, Yang has rarely starred, netting nine goals and setting up eight in 84 games, output that for an aggressive, pacey winger, is considered poor.

This season has seen no change to the pattern; in 19 games, he has found the net just twice, despite playing from the start more often than not.

Now, as we head into 2026, it seems the Celtic hierarchy have finally lost patience with Yang - unable to deliver on the very obvious promise he exhibited while at Gangwon FC, it looks as if it is time for the Korean international to move on.

However, despite his attacking shortcomings, his top-flight experience is seen as a valuable commodity, and both Norwich City and Birmingham City will be salivating at the prospect of what Yang could do when presented with a Championship fullback.

He has plenty of trophy-winning experience, lifting the League Cup, the Scottish Cup and the Premiership (x2) during his time in Edinburgh, and even if he doesn’t bring vast quantities of goals and assists, Yang still brings a winning mentality, something that Birmingham will be after in their bid for a second straight promotion, and something Norwich are yearning for after a dismal start to the campaign.

Birmingham actually came close to securing Yang on deadline day in September for a sum of around £3 million, but a move never materialised. However, it speaks volumes that they have kept tabs on the winger, as they clearly believe he could be a great asset to their promotion push despite the shortcomings he displayed at the Bhoys.

However, with Norwich in the race and Preston North End also rumoured to be admirers, the Blues will have to move quickly if they are to secure a move five months in the making.
