Fulham are Sleepwalking Into a Relegation Battle, and No One is Talking About

Fulham are Quietly Heading For a Relegation Battle

Fulham were one of the infamous yo-yo clubs last decade, and were up until their promotion in 2022.

Since then, they have finished 10th, 13th and 11th under Marco Silva's management, not far away from their league best of seventh back in 2008/09.

Players such as Emile Smith Rowe, Alex Iwobi, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez are on their roster, all of whom joined from established top flight clubs.

However, they currently sit in 15th and are just a point above West Ham United, who occupy the final relegation position.

What Is Going Wrong For Them?

Transfer Turmoil

Silva publicly raised his concern at the club's inactivity during the latest summer window, as players such as Willian, Andreas Pereira and Reiss Nelson departed.

Arrivals were 18-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare, Benjamin Lecomte, Samuel Chukwueze on-loan and record signing Kevin, all of which came to £38m.

Kevin is yet to make an impression, with no goal involvements in his eight Premier League appearance thus far. His only assist for the Cottagers came in the penalty shootout win over Wycombe Wanderers at the end of October.

With the failure to replace the experience and quality lost from the summer sales, it's perhaps no surprise that have lost from winning positions multiple times, such as against Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

Injury Crisis: Strikers Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz both experienced month-long injuries, of which overlapped, which left the Cottagers without an established striker playing in the nine position.

Chukwueze, Sasa Lukic, Tom Cairney, Joachim Anderson and Harry Wilson were all out during the same period, with Kenny Tete, Kevin Santos, Antonee Robinson and Issa Diop out the month before.

When you combine this with the lack of depth due to the poor summer business, it only amplifies the size of the wounds in the squad from all of the absences.

Once the chunk of the squad are back and up to speed and if the manager can inspire names such as Kevin to show why they are at the club, they should have enough to beat the likes of Burnley, West Ham and Nottingham Forest to survival.

If he can't though, they could be in serious trouble come May.
