Peterborough United are in contact with AFC Wrexham over the potential signing of 26-year-old central defender Thomas O’Connor, reports Pete O’Rouke.
The former Southampton youngster has fallen out of favour at the Racecourse Ground and is yet to appear for the Red Dragons this season. Tommy Doyle’s arrival from Manchester City has pushed O’Connor closer to the exit door, with League One an ideal destination.
The Posh have already signed Tom Lees and David Okagbue as new faces in the centre-back department, but have suffered at the back this season, with the third most goals conceded (11) in League One after six matches.
Despite sitting bottom of the third tier, Peterborough continue to show ambition in the market, desperate to discover additions that might turn their league fortune.

O’Connor has made over 100 appearances in League One for Wrexham, Burton Albion, and Gillingham, and is considered a high-end asset for the division.
The former Irish youth international leaves the Welsh outfit having made over 100 appearances for the club, playing over 2,000 minutes of football in their League Two and League One promotions triumphs.
About to enter his so-called ‘prime years’ at the age of 26, O’Connor has plenty to offer at the back or even in midfield, with a history of playing in defensive midfield too.
Wrexham fans will be sad to see the player depart, as such a big part of their story under Hollywood ownership, but O’Connor is unproven at Championship level. A move to London Road will allow him to continue as a first-team starter, showcasing his impressive defensive ability and flexible play style to the rest of League One.
