Thiago Silva is one of football's last true titans.
The Brazilian centre-back is still playing at the top of his game back in his home nation with Fluminense even at the age of 41, having been a standout performer in the very twilight of his career in the Brazilian Serie A.
After a glittering career that has seen him win a whopping 31 major trophies, with a Champions League amongst them after a legendary spell in the Premier League with Chelsea, the sun may set on Silva's illustrious career sooner rather than later with football preparing to say goodbye to another true great of the game in the near future.
At the end of another strong season with Fluminense, Silva has shed a bit of light on what will come after he hangs his boots up, and it's safe to say the legendary defender has some lofty ambitions in mind.
Silva has a very specific, by his own admission, dream in mind for how his managerial career could take shape when speaking in the aftermath of a a great season with Fluminense:
“When I become a coach, I want to achieve a specific goal. As a coach, I want to manage all the clubs I have played for in my long career!” The veteran centre-back declared.

It would certainly be an impressive CV of clubs to take the reins with. Over his two-decade-strong career, Silva has turned out for Fluminense, RS Futebol, Juventude, Porto, Dynamo Moscow, AC Milan, PSG and Chelsea. He has had an outstanding adventure across Brazil and Europe, and the iconic defender want to make a return to each stop he has had along the way - only this time from the dugout.
Now back with Fluminense, who he first played with between 2006 and 2008 with over 100 league appearances, Silva has shown an oustanding level of career longevity. Despite his age, he has made a total of 40 appearances this term in his native Brazil as he helped guide the club to a 5th-place finish in Brazilian Serie A, earning qualification to the Copa Libertadores. His contract runs until the summer of 2026, but speculation remains rife that he may make a short jump back to European football before he officially calls time on his career.
Thiago Silva is under contract with Fluminense until June 2026, but he is still hoping for one last adventure before he hangs up his boots – playing for Brazil at the World Cup.
Though remaining with Fluminense until the summer of 2026, Thiago Silva is still hoping for one last big expedition before he brings the curtain down on his playing days - playing for Brazil in the coming World Cup.
“I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t in my plans,” he admitted. “But I haven’t discussed it with Carlo Ancelotti.
“I haven’t been called up since the 2022 World Cup, but I thought it wasn’t impossible. That’s why I signed a two-year contract with Fluminense, with the aim of winning the World Cup. Can you imagine if I finished my career with a World Cup title? That would be the absolute dream and the perfect time to retire.”
