The Josh Sargent saga is just the gift that keeps on giving. Just when you think all possible outcomes have been covered, another report emerges detailing another fiasco that sees the whole scenario take another step further into the realm of bonkers.
During his time at the Canaries, Sargent has been given ample opportunity to leave the club, with both sides from the MLS and even Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg interested in his signature for a time, with deals around the €20 million mark bounced around.
However, Sargent turned all of these down, and continued to faithfully serve Norwich City. That is, until this transfer window, when all of a sudden, Sargent made himself unavailable to play for the first team for reasons known only to himself.
🚨 After a heated meeting with Ben Knapper and Philippe Clement, it appears that Josh Sargent has played his last game for the club.

Now, after a heated disagreement with both Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper and head coach Philip Clement, it appears that Sargent’s future with Norwich is nonexistent and that he will finally get the move he so clearly desires.
We can only assume that Sargent is desperate enough to risk his honour as a footballer because of the fast-upcoming World Cup, which takes place in the striker's home country of the USA, along with Canada and Mexico.
While the Norwich marksman has 29 international caps to his name and is bound to receive at least a call-up, his game-to-call-up ratio has been poor as of late - since October 2024, he has played just three games for the national side, a clear indication that he needs to do more to force his way into the starting lineup.
In his defence, Sargent has been doing his level best to do just that, and has been a lethal Championship striker for a number of years - he has 522 second-tier goals in the last four seasons and has been Norwich’s star man for the whole of that time.
But it has become clear that while he is in the second tier, his international game time will be limited, and it was likely his agent who planted the idea to make him unavailable to the first team, a move which has riled up the team’s hierarchy.
Josh Sargent has given Norwich 4 1/2 years of exemplary service.

He was relegated with them and responded with 50 EFL goals since, never demanded a transfer when other MLS clubs showed major interest.
Stop fighting this, do the right thing. https://t.co/HdezmRQv0x
Yesterday, the player and management met up in an attempt to talk things out - however, instead of solving the situation, they emerged from the meeting far worse off, with Sargent visibly upset by the conversation. Allegedly, there was a comment about his family which has been described as the last straw - best to leave that one to speculation.
However, what the meeting has done is all but confirm that Sargent has played his final game for the Canaries, ending a four-and-a-half-year stint in East Anglia that has seen nothing but exemplary service on a particularly sour note.
There is heavy interest in the striker, with Toronto FC leading the race for his signature, and despite these recent disputes, the 25-year-old's market value remains at a steady £19 million, meaning that Norwich should receive a healthy payday when he eventually leaves.
It’s just a shame that Sargent’s departure has ended up being so toxic.
