A Six Goal Thriller and A Top Of The Table Clash - EFL League One Round 32's Saturday Matches As They Happen

A Dramatic Saturday of League One Action - Round 32 Review

Following the completion of match week 32 in League One we’ll be going through all the games that took place today. From Plymouths 4-0 thrashing away against Blackpool to a six goal thriller at Oakwood there was certainly a lot of entertainment on show today.

Stevenage 1-0 Huddersfield

Liam Manning tasted defeat for the first time as Huddersfield manager after losing to a late Carl Piergianni winner to give the home side all three points.

It was a game that lacked any real quality throughout, after a cagey first half from both sides it was Stevenage who dominated the second half as they restricted Huddersfield to just one shot. It felt it was only a matter of time until Stevenage would score and they did in the 85th minute.

Huddersfield remain sixth and Stevenage climb up to ninth as four points separate the two sides.

Reading 3-2 Wycombe

A super Jack Marriott performance sealed all three points for The Royals as they won 3-2 against Wycombe and climb up to seventh in the table.

Jack Marriott scored twice in the first half to give the hosts a two goal advantage going into half time, however it was Wycombe who came out flying in the second half as both centre backs would end up on the score sheet as they drew level at 2-2, but just two minutes after equalising Marriott would complete his hat trick with a superb finish and out Reading 3-2 to the good. Marriotts hat trick would be enough and Reading would see out the win.

Lincoln City 1-1 Bolton

A huge match up at the top of the table, second against third as both sides battled hard but after the 90 minutes the points were shared.

Lincoln took a well-deserved lead within the first half thanks to Jack Moylan. A bombardment of shots would commence on the Bolton goal but Jack Bonham would stand strong as he made an incredible nine saves during the game as he kept Bolton in the tie. And late on Sam Dalby would score his fifth goal in his last four games to rescue a point for Bolton. The gap between the two stays at six points but Lincoln will be kicking themselves about not getting all three points.

Barnsley 3-3 AFC Wimbledon

Game of the match week took place at Oakwell as the game swayed back and fourth across the 90 minutes.

Barnsley took at 2-0 lead in just 14 minutes thanks to goals from David McGoldrick and Tom Bradhsaw, Wimbledon would respond brilliantly as Omar Bugiel would score a two minute hat trick to bring Wimbledon level in the 27th minute and the referee would blow for half time with the game finely poised at 2-2 with all to play for.

The second half would start slower before Marcus Browne scored for Wimbledon in the 74th minute as it looked like that would be enough to secure all three points, that was until Scott Banks would score to bring Barnsley level at 3-3 where the game would eventually conclude.

Blackpool 0-4 Plymouth

A day to forget for a relegation threatened Blackpool side as they are hammered 4-0 at the hands of Plymouth.

This was a game dominated by Plymouth from kick off, allowing Blackpool just five shots all game as they created just 0.22xG. Despite there being four goals it was four different goal scorers for the visitors as Alexander Mitchell, Aribim Pepple, Malachi Boateng and Caleb Watts all got on the scoresheet. Things would go from bad to worse for Blackpool as James Husband would see red in the 87th minute. Plymouth climb up to 12th and have a comfortable eight point gap from the relegation zone.

Cardiff 3-1 Luton

A battle of two of the three sides who went down from the Championship last season. It was a routine victory for the League One leaders as they improve on the gap to Lincoln in second as they drew to Bolton.

Cardiff took an early 11th minute lead thanks to David Turnbull but just nine minutes later Isaiah Jones would draw a foul from Joel Bagan inside the penalty area and Jordan Clark would score his ninth of the season to bring it back to 1-1 inside 20 minutes.

Due to the overwhelming quality of this Cardiff side it wasn’t long before they responded, goals from Joel Colwill and Perry Ng was enough to earn all three points for the Welsh side.

Bradford 2-0 Peterborough

Bradford came out as 2-0 winners at home to Peterborough as their incredible home form continues, having lost just twice in 15 games. They dominated proceedings having 53% possession and only giving Peterborough four shots all game. Alex Bass in goal for Peterborough would put up a performance in vein as he made seven saves during the match.

Bobby Pointon would make it 1-0 after just five minutes for the hosts, Bradford would then double their advantage six minutes after the restart through Kayden Jackson. That would seal all three points as Bradford remain firmly in the play offs.

Exeter 0-0 Northampton

And finally we end with the least entertaining game on the Saturday with a goal less draw at St James Park.

Exeter would have most of the ball throughout the game, racking up 67% possession and not even conceding a shot in the first half but couldn’t capitalise. The second half would be more or less the same with Exeter having most of the ball and the chances but same story being that they couldn’t take advantage of it, as the game fizzled out to finish 0-0.
