There were only two matches played in the Premier League on Sunday, with one reserved for Monday Night Football.
Nevertheless, they were a couple of corkers, as Manchester United aimed to take advantage of a stumbling Liverpool to win at Anfield for the first time since the 2015/16 season, and Tottenham hoped to continue their strong start against the underperforming Aston Villa.
Here's how the action unfolded.
Man United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield to win on their patch for the first time since January 2016.
The visitors made the perfect start, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring inside two minutes following a collision involving Virgil van Dijk and Alexis MacAllister that left the Argentinian midfielder down on the surface.
Bruno Fernandes came a whisker away from doubling the lead halfway through the first half, hitting the post from just inside the penalty area.
Cody Gakpo came agonisingly close for Liverpool, hitting the woodwork on three seperate occassions, one of which looped over the head of Senne Lammens and left Luke Shaw scrambling before the post came to their aid.
The Dutchman did finally get his reward in the 78th minute, tapping in from yards out after Federicho Chiesa fired a low ball across the face of goal.
Just six minutes later though and United had their lead back, Harry Maguire beating Ibrahima Konate in the air to head home Fernandes' delivery.
Liverpool should have dragged themselves level three minutes from time when Gakpo remarkably spurned the chance for his brace and an equaliser, missing a free header six yards from goal.
Seeing out a period of eight minutes of stoppage time, United had sealed a famous away win and condemned their great rivals to their fourth straight defeat in all competitions.
Aston Villa made it three league wins on the bounce as they look to recover from their torrid start by beating Tottenham 2-1.
Yet, it was Tottenham who had the better start, with Rodrigo Bentancur tucking in Joao Palhinha's header to keep the attack alive.
Morgan Rogers equalised for the Villains in the 37th minute through a screamer that flew into the far side of the net, giving the outstretched arm of Guglielmo Vicario no chance.
Ezri Konsa made a huge block at the start of the second half to deny Wilson Odobert, after Matty Cash's poor touch presented the opportunity.
Emiliano Buendia won the game for Villa in the 77th minute, after Lucas Digne's great touch to pluck Cash's long ball out the air gave the Argentinian space on the edge of the box to drift forward, before he curled a shot into the bottom left corner.
Tottenham are now in sixth, whilst Villa have moved up to 11th and are only four points from second.
