Vitor Pereira is SACKED: Where Did it all Go Wrong?

Vitor Pereira is sacked from Wolverhampton Wanderers

Just 45 days after signing a fresh three-year deal at Wolves, Vitor Pereira has now been given his marching orders.

It has been a woeful start to the season for the Midlands club, who are winless in their first 10 matches with just two points, and were recently knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Sure, they may have been unfortunate not to have claimed more points, having lost in stoppage time to Burnley and denied a win in the same period to Tottenham.

The Brazilian - who adhered himself to the fans by drinking pints with them after victories - was given a new deal due to six straight league wins last season that lifted them out of the relegation zone that Pereira inherited when he joined.

Executive chairman Jeff Shi said:

“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.

“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.

“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”

Where Did It Go Wrong?

It was a terrible summer transfer window for the club.

Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo all left for a combined sum of £93.5m.

They were inadequately replaced, as Tolu Arokodare, Fer Lopez, Jhon Arias, Ladislav Krejci (loan), Nasser Djiga, Jackson Tchatchoua and David Moller Wolfe were brought in for £99m - all of whom have failed to replicate the quality of those departed.

To make matters worse, speculation over Jorgen Strand Larsen's possible move to Newcastle at the start of the season was an unwanted disruption going into their opening game.

This was coupled with an Achilles injury to the striker that has forced him to play the majority of the season without full fitness, leading to him netting just thrice in all competitions thus far.

Ultimately, a mixture of lost momentum from the close of last campaign, big-name departures and the slow start for their key goal threat has meant they look like a Championship quality side.

In an era where results and instant success is vital, the board have acted and decided options elsewhere have a better chance than Pereira at turning their fortunes around.

The search for their fifth permanent manager in four years is now underway.
