Our expert betting research has now led us to the ever-thrilling EFL League One. We’re taking a look at Nathan Jones’ Charlton side, who host Chris Davies’ Birmingham team.
The match takes place at The Valley this saturday.
It’s an exciting clash League One, with Birmingham’s super squad dominant so far, leaving them sat at top spot.
Despite Charlton’s decent start, three losses in the bounce leave them wallowing in midtable so far.
Charlton Athletic Predicted Line-up - William Mannion; Macaulay Gillesphey, Lloyd Jones, Alex Mitchell; Josh Edwards, Luke Berry, Conor Coventry, Karoy Anderson, Tennai Watson; Tyreece Campbell, Chuks Aneke
Whilst Charlton had a mostly positive start to the current League One campaign; losses to Bristol Rovers, Stevenage, and Blackpool mean they’ve slid back down the table so far.
Whilst Nathan Jones is an established manager and I’d imagine there’s still no pressure on his job, he’ll want to turn things back around in his favour with an upset here.
Conor Coventry will be key in midfield, whilst Campbell and Aneke will be looking to add to their low goal-tallies this season.
Birmingham City Predicted Line-up - Ryan Allsop; Alex Cochrane, Krystian Bielik, Christoph Klarer, Taylor Gardner-Hickman; Seung-Ho Paik, Tomoki Iwata; Keshi Anderson, Alfie May, Willum Thor Willumson; Jay Stansfield
Despite a slow start by their expectations, a recent run of good form has turned Blues’ fortunes around this season.
Whilst it looked like Wrexham were going to pull ahead at the top of the table, a double from Jay Stansfield earned them a win against the Welsh side and they’ve been unstoppable ever since.
The £20 million-man in attack will continue to be key this season, proving his price tag game after game.
The two sides have met 22 times since 2002. Of those matches, Charlton Athletic have won seven, whilst Birmingham have won six.
Nine meetings have resulted in draws.
13th August 2024 - Charlton 0-1 Birmingham - EFL Cup
22nd August 2020 - Birmingham 1-1 Charlton - Friendly
15th July 2020 - Birmingham 1-1 Charlton - EFL Championship
14th September 2019 - Charlton 0-1 Birmingham - EFL Championship
2nd April 2016 - Charlton 2-1 Birmingham - EFL Championship
Despite Charlton probably having the better ‘H2H’ form, we think Birmingham City’s quality will prove far too much for the Addicks.
They spent a lot of money in the summer, dwarfing the League One transfer record with the acquisition of League One’s Jay Stansfield, along with Alfie May who’s notorious at this level.
So much so that we’re confident Birmingham are going to breach 100 points this season.
However, they have shown they’re prone to conceding, with Ryan Allsop still not confident in the Blues’ net.
We think overall the best value tip is Birmingham City to win & both teams to score, backed up by our research.
Odds of 5/2 on PariMatch mean that a £10 bet has the potential to return up to £35 in this match.
(odds subject to change)
Charlton Athletic 1-3 Birmingham City
Whilst they’re probably going to let one goal slip, we’re bound to see why Birmingham are the strongest side in the League.
