The Scottish Premiership has been throwing up some incredible fixtures and some interesting results as of late. This week Dundee FC host Scottish giants Rangers at Dens Park hoping to put some more distance between themselves and the teams near the bottom.
Dundee’s recent form has been very mixed, with two wins and two losses since Christmas. Last time out they beat bottom side St Johnstone 3-1 away from home. They scored three times in the first 30 minutes and walked away with three points despite having just 23% possession.
Rangers thought that they had escaped their recent slump in form with a win over their rivals Celtic, however last time out they drew 3-3 against Hibernian. Hamza Igamane scored all three of Rangers goals but it wasn’t enough for all three points.
Dundee FC Predicted Lineup - Trevor Carson; Luke Graham, Clark Robertson, Ryan Astley; Scott Tiffoney, Mohamed Sylla, Lyall Cameron, Josh Mulligan; Oluwaseun Adewumi, Seb Palmer-Houlden; Simon Murray
Dundee have a strong attacking side but defensive uncertainty this season has meant that they are just two points ahead of Hearts who are second from bottom. They do have a game in hand over all of the teams around them, so if they win here, it could move them up to sixth in the table.
Simon Murray has been in good form this season, with eight goals and three assists. He scored in their last match, making it four goals in Dundee’s last three games. If he can keep this sort of goalscoring up, then Dundee will certainly be steered away from danger very quickly.
Rangers Predicted Lineup - Liam Kelly; Jefte, Robin Propper, Dujon Sterling, Ridvan Yilmaz; Nicolas Raskin, Mohamed Diomande; Ianis Hagi, Nedim Bajrami, Vaclav Cerny; Hamza Igamane
Rangers might be a bit short of personnel for this match as they could be missing up to five first team players. Jack Butland will definitely miss out through injury as will long serving captain James Tavernier. Liam Kelly and Ridvan Yilmaz have been deputising well in their absences so far.
Vaclav Cerny has performed well off the wing all season, but Hamza Igamane will definitely be the player to watch in this match, having scored a hattrick against Hibernian at the weekend.
I think that it will come as no surprise that Rangers are dominant in this fixture. The last time Dundee won against Rangers was back in 2017 when they won 2-1 at home. Since then, whether it has been in the league or in one of Scottish football’s cup competitions, Rangers haven’t lost.
21st Dec 2024 - Rangers 1-0 Dundee- Scottish Premiership
21st Sep 2024 - Rangers 3-0 Dundee - Scottish League Cup
14th May 2024 - Rangers 5-2 Dundee - Scottish Premiership
17th Apr 2024 - Dundee 0-0 Rangers - Scottish Premiership
9th Dec 2023 - Rangers 3-1 Dundee - Scottish Premiership
Both Dundee FC and Rangers tend to score a lot of goals, but Rangers are the better side on paper. Dundee’s recent away form has seen them win their last two games on the road, but they have lost their two most recent home games, which could be problematic when they play Rangers this week.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Rangers to Win + BTTS. Odds of 7/4 on Betfred means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £27.50.
(odds subject to change)
