This weekend sees a number of tight games in the Scottish top flight, but the most interesting one takes place on Sunday between Motherwell and Hearts. These two teams are usually in and around the talk for a European spot, but after two games this season they both sit just above the bottom two with just a point each.
Motherwell started their campaign with a 0-0 draw at home to Ross County, a disappointing result for a team aiming to be in the top half of the table this season. Their second game was an away trip to Rangers which they lost 2-1 after a crazy 10 minute spell in the first half. Last weekend, they managed a win in the Scottish League Cup against Kilmarnock who are also having a terrible start to the season. An extra-time strike from Moses Ebiye gave the Steelmen a 1-0 victory and their fans will be hoping that they can continue their form into the next game.
Hearts’ season started at home to Rangers and they managed to hold the 55 times champions to a 0-0 draw. They then travelled to Dundee but failed to The Dark Blues. Three first half goals gave the hosts the win, despite a second half goal from Hearts’ Frankie Kent. Things went from bad to worse for Hearts after that, losing to second tier side Falkirk in the League Cup and losing to Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of the Europa League play off. It is crucial that Hearts win this next game or else head coach Steven Naismith could be in real trouble.
Hearts are the stronger team on paper but having European commitments could make this fixture more difficult. The last time they didn’t have to travel for a game was on the opening day of the season; since then they have been all over Scotland and in Czechia too. Even so, Naismith is a good coach, who managed the side to third place last season and they also have some top quality players such as Lawrence Shankland and Beni Baningime.
Our team of experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Hearts to win. With 6/4 odds on Betfred, a £10 bet could see potential returns of £25.
Motherwell vs Hearts kicks off at 3pm on Sunday 25th August. The match is not available to watch in the UK.
