Millwall vs Cardiff City Prediction

Back-to-Back games at the Den for Millwall as they will welcome Cardiff City for some action-packed bottom half of the table Championship football. After an own-goal saw Millwall receive their tenth loss of the season and drop down to 17th, they will be hoping to be victorious over the team down in 20th. Cardiff City took a miraculous win in the South Wales Derby, defeating Swansea 3-0 at home. This win now sees the the Bluebirds unbeaten from their last five matches, picking up two victories and three draws.

Key Stats

  • Cardiff City are currently six games unbeaten while their opposition have picked up two losses in their last five games
  • Millwall have only managed five goals from their last five games compared to Cardiff City’s seven
  • Cardiff City are joint fourth for the most goals conceded in the league so far this season while their opponents are joint sixth for least goals conceded

Team Previews, Form and Standout Players

Alex Neil’s side were unlucky not to get a result against Hull City in this game, with his side having more of the possession and the better attacking chances. But a massive deflection off John Cooper left Millwall with too much to do, leaving them to suffer defeat. Alex Neil is still yet to get his first Championship win with Millwall having only managed three Championship games so far. With striker Tom Bradshaw heading off to Oxford United, Neil was quick to bring in new Irish Stirker Aaron Connolly. The 24-year-old was struggling for game time at Sunderland, only managing ten appearances from 26 games.

Cardiff City have been on a brilliant run as of late. Unbeaten in their last six matches across all competition they have brought themselves out of the relegation zone but will need to continue this form if they are to ensure safety, with only one point separating them from relegation.

Millwall Preview

Formation: 4-2-2-2

Predicted Line-Up: Jensen; Bryan, Cooper, Tanganga, Leonard; Saville, De Norre; Honeyman, Watmore; Ivanovic, Connelly

After it was confirmed that Millwall wonder kid Romain Esse would be heading to Crystal Palace, Neil knew his attack would suffer with the youngster picking up five goal contributions for the Lions. With Esse gone, Alex Neil may opt to shake the formation around and start his star striker Mihailo Ivanovic with new boy on the block Aaron Connelly. Defensive midfielder Casper De Norre has been brilliant in both attack and defence this season, especially against Dagenham & Redbridge in their recent FA Cup third action. Ensuring high intensity going up and down the pitch and finding the back of the net for his second goal of the season.

Cardiff City Preview

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Line-Up: Alnwick, O’Dowada, Daland, Goutas, Rinomhota; Ralls, Chambers; Tanner, Robertson, Colwill; Robinson

Callum Robinson was already a fan favourite this season but a brace in the South Wales Derby will get the fans further behind him. Already scoring nine goals in the Championship so far, the Irish forward looks keen to keep his goal tallying rising. Defeating Swansea City in their last game only continued what has been a brilliant display by the Bluebirds to revive themselves this season. They can breathe a sigh of relief, but they still need to be careful as the drop zone is looming and they are far from safe.

Head to Head Stats

Cardiff City came out the victors in the reverse fixture this season, courtesy of a Perry Ng first half goal. However, Millwall have won the other four of the last five battles between the two sides.

Betting Tips

Millwall have been inconsistent and low scoring so far this season. Coming off the back of a loss they may struggle in this game massively. If Cardiff can bring the adrenaline and the momentum from their last victory, the Welsh side will dominate this game

For this reason, our betting experts suggest Cardiff City Handicap +1 is the best value tip for this game. With odds at 7/10, a bet of £10 could see a return of up to £17
