Gameweek eight of the Italian Serie A sets up a meeting between Roma and Inter Milan as the hosts try to improve on their lacklustre start to the season, while Inter will want to put pressure on Napoli at the summit of the league.
Roma are currently in ninth in the league, level on points with Atalanta, Empoli and Fiorentina. They have won twice in the league this season, but are yet to get their first of the Europa League campaign.
Meanwhile, Inter have won four league games as well as one in the Champions League against Red Star. Their only loss this season came against their cross-city rivals AC Milan towards the end of last month.
Roma Predicted Lineup - Mile Svilar; Angelino, Evan Ndicka, Gianluca Mancini; Nicola Zalewski, Bryan Cristante, Manu Kone, Mehmet Zeki Celik; Lorenzo Pellegrini, Matias Soule; Artem Dovbyk
Head Coach, Ivan Juric, joined the club in September and has since turned their form around. He will be without winger Stephan El Shaarawy as he recovers from a calf injury, so I expect Polish international Nicola Zalewski to replace him. Paulo Dybala could start, but Juric appears to prefer Lorenzo Pellegrini and Matias Soule in that position.
Artem Dovbyk signed from Girona in the summer and last season, he was the top scorer in La Liga. He has already managed three league goals for Roma, and he will be their biggest attacking threat this weekend.
Inter Milan Predicted Lineup - Yann Sommer; Alessandro Bastoni, Francesco Acerbi, Yann Bisseck; Federico Dimarco, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, Davide Frattesi, Matteo Darmian; Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram
The only injury concern for Inter Milan is Piotr Zielinski, who joined from Napoli in the summer. Other than that, their team should be fully fit and ready to go. Lautaro Martinez may miss out due to the amount of travelling that he has had to do with his international team over the last week.
Inter Milan’s front two is one of the most dangerous in Europe at the moment. While Martinez has started this season slowly, everyone knows how dangerous he can be, and Marcus Thuram is on fire. He scored a hat-trick last time out in the league, and already has seven league goals to his name after seven games.
In recent years, Inter Milan have been dominant in this fixture, however that wasn’t always the case. Before their recent revival, Inter struggled against this weekend’s hosts. Between 2011 and 2014, there was an eight game period in which Inter failed to win even once.
Also, between January 2018 and January 2021, the two sides played each other six times, and each time it resulted in a draw. Here are their five most recent meetings:
10th Feb 2024 - Roma 2-4 Inter Milan - Serie A
29th Oct 2023 - Inter Milan 1-0 Roma - Serie A
6th May 2023 - Roma 0-2 Inter Milan - Serie A
1st Oct 2022 - Inter Milan 1-2 Roma - Serie A
23rd Apr 2023 - Inter Milan 3-1 Roma - Serie A
While Roma’s form has improved over recent weeks, they are still drawing a lot of games that they should theoretically be winning. Inter’s form has been pretty good, but the loss against their rivals did hurt them somewhat.
Inter’s team is really strong on paper, and their front line is especially dangerous for Roma. It has the potential to be a tight game, but I think that Inter are just too strong for Roma to be able to hold out forever.
With all of this in mind, our team of professional experts have decided that the best tip for this game is for Inter Milan to Win. Odds of 17/20 on QuinnBet means that a £10 bet could see a potential return of £18.50.
(odds subject to change)
Roma 1-2 Inter Milan
Roma’s aim this year is to get back into the Champions League while Inter Milan will be looking to win the title, however we think that they’ll fall short and that Juventus will return to the summit of Serie A.
