Scotland host Portugal at Hampden Park for another match in the UEFA Nations League Group A, wanting to recover from Saturday’s loss to Croatia.
This is the last game of the international break for both of these nations. Portugal have the chance to qualify through to the knockout rounds with a victory.
Scotland Predicted Line-up: Craig Gordon; Andrew Robertson, Grant Hanley, John Souttar, Anthony Ralston; Kenny McLean, Billy Gilmour; Ryan Christie, Scott McTominay, Ben Doak; Lyndon Dykes
Scotland fans won’t be in the best of places right now. Whilst Croatia are a top footballing nation, losing 2-1 after going ahead early on is never going to sit well. They go into this game needing a win desperately if they still want to qualify for the next round. If they can’t at least draw with Portugal, their chances of qualification will drop dramatically.
Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie scored against Croatia on Saturday, as probably the standout performer for his nation.
When it comes to players to look out for, Ben Doak who is currently out on loan from Liverpool at Middlesbrough looks like a quality player. He’s just 18 but has been very impressive in the Championship this season with a real flare about him.
Portugal Predicted Line-up: Diogo Costa; Nuno Mendes, Renato Veiga, Rúben Dias, Diogo Dalot; Bernardo Silva, Rúben Neves; Rafael Leão, Bruno Fernandes, Pedro Neto; Cristiano Ronaldo
Portugal are in the best position that a nation could be in after three games in the Nations League. They’ve won all three of their fixtures against Scotland, Croatia and Poland already, proving that they have the quality to better any team they play against right now.
Cristinao Ronaldo was on the scoresheet after a terrific run from Rafeal Leao on Saturday. The now 39-year-old already has eight goals this season, and is determined to play at another major tournament for Portugal.
They now come into another game as favourites and should qualify to the next stage with a resounding victory.
The last time Scotland beat Portugal was at the European Championships qualification in 1980, winning 4-1. Since then, they’ve played seven times with Portugal winning five of them.
