The saying goes that the goalkeeper has the hardest job on the pitch. We've had many great goalkeepers over the decades. From Buffon to Neuer to Casillas to van der Sar to Seaman to Yashin and so on and so on.
In this blog we will be going through FootballPark’s top 10 goalkeepers as of 2025.
The first player in this top 10 is Porto’s, Diogo Costa. Having kept the most clean sheets in the Portuguese league for the last two seasons he is a formidable force in goal, as well as that he is also the starting keeper for Portugal. It will be interesting to see if he can make the next step in his career and maybe move to a one of Europe’s best leagues.
As of now he’s ranked ninth but over the next decade or so we will most definitely see this man jump up the rankings. At Just 24 he is already the starting keeper for Barcelona (currently injured but should be returning soon), after impressing over at Real Sociedad for a couple seasons he made the disputed move over to the Spanish giants who brought him in to replace the ageing Ter Stegen and Szczesny.
❗️Szczesny for Barcelona this season:

It seems he has been around forever but that’s what makes him so good. Signing for Atletico Madrid in 2014, he has been a staple of their backline ever since. He may not get the credit he may deserve due to the lack of accolades during his time at Atletico but his ever commanding presence is a key factor to Simeone’s way of playing.
Now this selection way come as a surprise to some but I can’t not put the Serbian in this top 10 list. After gaining global attention (for all the wrong reasons) after his howler when he was at Benfica after carrying Lukaku’s shot over the line, he has silently been performing wonders over in the Italian capital for Roma. Only conceding five goals all season in the league as well as 16 clean sheets last season and five already this season. He is easily one of the most underrated keepers in football right now.
Mile Svilar has emerged from Rui Patricio's shadow to become one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A.

Patricio was finally dropped by De Rossi in February 2024 and Svilar hasn't looked back.

The Swiss was arguably one of the most underrated players in his position throughout large parts of his career. Playing for Basel and Borussia Monchengladbach for a lot of his career, he finally got a big move to Inter Milan in 2023 and it’s made the footballing world realise how good he truly is.
From one Milan keeper to the other, Mike Maignan is in at number five. After winning Ligue 1 with Lille in 2021 the Frenchman moved over to AC Milan and has been a formidable shot stopper and an excellent ball playing goal keeper. He has also seamlessly taken over from Lloris as Frances number one goalkeeper.
After being brought in from Roma for £67 million, the transfer was met with a lot of scepticism but he quickly shut any critics up. Consolidating his position as the worlds best goal keeper for many years. He’s helped Liverpool lift a couple Premier League titles and a UCL. But who could forget his greatest moment in a Liverpool shirt, his glancing header to beat West Brom in stoppage time.
Coming in at number 3. Standing at 6ft 7in the Belgian has always been one if not the best over the years. Whether it was at Chelsea or Real Madrid he remained consistent and a nightmare for any attacker. Just the name “Courtois” will give Liverpool fans PTSD to the UCL Final in 2022, he made a staggering 9 saves and was awarded the MOTM.

Just missing out on first is City’s new addition, Gianluigi Donnarumma. After breaking out at AC Milan at just 16 he has been a prominent force as one of the worlds best goal keepers since. Highlights being during PSG’s UCL campaign last season and the infamous 2021 Euros where he was the hero in the penalty shootout to deny England their first major trophy since 1966.
The top spot goes to the Spaniard. The signing of Raya was heavily questioned especially with Ramsdale doing well at Arsenal but my word was it the correct decision. He is at the heart of the most formidable backline in world football right now, he is an incredibly well rounded keeper who can do no wrong. Keeping a total of 11 clean sheets in all competitions already and only conceding three goals all season. It was a tough choice between Raya and Donnarumma for the number one position but based on current form im going with Raya.
David Raya has now not conceded a single goal in 12 hours of playing time.
