Football fans adore arguing over who has the better support for their club, its heritage, telling another fanbase that they wish they could show as good support for their side as your team does, and whether it's true or not, we all do it.
But it always begs the question, who actually has the best fanbase in football? It's a subject that's up to personal preference on the whole; however, some clubs objectively have absolutely phenomenal fans.
Here we're going to rank the top 10 down to MY personal opinion, so please if your side is missing from the list just know it's nothing personal, well probably not personal anyway. It's also worth saying that biggest doesn't always mean best fanbases, looking over to Manchester for that one.
Coming in at 10th is our only English entry onto the list and it pains me to say it's Liverpool.
Their fans may well be annoying online but they have shown enough in real life to justify a place on this list, listening to the Anfield rd faithful singing along to 'You'll Never Walk Alone' or the scenes they showed after finally winning a Premier League title.
It also helps their case that players past and present always refer to Anfield as a fortress and praise the noise that the fans make.

Speaking of clubs who love to sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' our next entrance takes us north to Scotland and the Green Brigade of Celtic.
For years now Celtic have proven themselves to be a hugely supported side across the globe and even in England you always tend to find many supporters that have soft spots for the Glasgow side.
But just how incredible the fans have shown themselves to be and how much of an atmosphere can be produced at Celtic Park puts them in the list. On top of this the fans will go to all end of the globe to follow the hoops in international tournaments.
This atmosphere at Celtic Park is absolutely insane, on another level to anything else we get in the UK. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/egLBHPYaXT

Ok I know I began this piece saying that bigger does not always mean better in terms of fanbases but sometimes both can be true and a great example of this is perhaps the biggest club in the world, Real Madrid.
Real Madrid can only be described as a colossus in football and their fans certainly help the reputation, they are absolutely ruthless and may start booing the entire squad and board after a single goal conceded but the real 'Madridstas' are clear in how they adore the club.
It's these fans that have helped propel the club to be the most successful in Europe and such a dominant force throughout the world.

Fans in the stadium played a huge role in this comeback. This is pure cinema. Goosebumps.pic.twitter.com/tQmlxuTOd9 https://t.co/fSVS5In1tl
The other side in the 'El Classico' is Barcelona who also have a phenomenal fanbase of their own and arguably even better than their rivals Madrid.
The club are etched into European history as one of the giants of the sport and the fans have helped propel them to these results every single time.
What also helps their standing in this list is the pure loyalty of their fanbase, god help you trying to argue with a Barca fan about them not being the greatest side on the planet because they'd likely rather die than admit anything negative about the club. It's this passion and dedication that give them a place on the list.
Saw this posted somewhere on line today.

This is the Nou Camp, when I played there the capacity was 120,000, it even had a 6ft deep mote around the actual pitch, it was an incredible cauldron and an incredible atmosphere, and a wonderful place to play football ! pic.twitter.com/KH7m19Tolu
Moving onto Italy we have one of the capital sides in AS Roma and their fans absolutely live and breathe the club. They don't have the luxury of being a one team city but you'd think they were with how alive the city becomes for a Roma game.
Their ability to dwarf the Lazio portion of the city speaks volumes to the love the fanbase has for the club and football generally.
Being able to hear the rendition of 'Roma, Roma, Roma' is an incredible experience and even in what are essentially deadweight fixtures you'll find a packed out Stadio Olimpico and full voices. Furthermore, the fans have been there through thick and thin with the side and shown no wavering in their support.

Now perhaps a surprising entry into this list is that of Parisian side PSG, they absolutely dominate the French league but what often gets overlooked is just how passionate their fans are.
Paris comes alive when a PSG game comes on to a level that genuinely almost feels unreal to see, the noise and the crowds are absolutely ridiculous and from personal experience the metro may as well be cancelled during game days as the PSG fans are able to grind the city to a halt.
The away fans of PSG are also some of the most dedicated in the world they follow the sides to wherever and turn half of the stadiums they visit into home atmospheres.

In Naples football is a religion and at the moment Scott McTominay is being worshipped like a god, who would've thought that just a few years ago.
But on a serious note, Naples as a city absolutely lives and breathes football and you'd be tough pressed to find any area of the city that doesn't have some kind of mention of the club or one of it's players.
The city and the club of Napoli are so deeply intertwined the city went into a period of mourning following the death of Diego Maradonna. There are very few clubs in the world that can match the loyalty that the fans show and the complete and utter adoration of their players.

One of the most famous sights in football is that of the Yellow Wall of Borussia Dortmund, funnily enough they also sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' which is apparently the formula for top tier fanbases.
Dortmund are world renowned for the support they show to their club and what's impressive is that the support never falters despite the spirit crushing dominance of Bayern Munich in Germany.
Every single week Dortmund fans turn up to the Signal Iduna Park and produce an atmosphere that pulls in fans from all over the globe.

The Maracana is one of the most iconic stadium on the entire planet and that has become the case in huge part to the absolute adoration the fans show to Rio De Janeiro's favourite team, Flamengo.
Recently the side won the Copa America and the city was brought to a standstill as absolutely everyone was out partying over the result.
Football is treated like a religion in South America and one of the sides that showcases this idea is without a doubt Flamengo, the city becomes a sea of red and black. Also in a funny turn of events West Ham fans are being cyberbullied because they are supposedly not releasing Lucas Paqueta to join the Brazilian club but this shows just how passionate the fans are.

Probably not a shocking number one placement to any football fans but at number one for the best fanbase in world football in 2026 it's Argentinian giants Boca Juniors.
If you ask most football fans their dream football trips the vast majority of them would tell you that a visit to La Bombanera, home of Boca Juniors is the dream and that's a testament to how incredible the fans of Boca are and how insane the atmosphere they create is.
To put into perspective just how well supported the club are plans were rumoured to be drawn up for a new stadium with a capacity of 112,000 fans and even this might not get every single fan in.
The atmosphere, the passion and the status the fans have been able to make associated with the club make them number one on our list.
