It is no secret that Blackburn are currently in a Championship survival fight. Sitting 20th and just four points clear of the drop zone in England’s second tier, it is fair to say that Valerien Ismael’s side have not reached the same heights that saw them finish 7th last year.
With that knowledge to hand, it was clear that the January transfer window needed to be a big one, and Ismael has wasted no time in bringing in new recruits.

Having already signed Brighton centre back Eiran Cashin, Blackburn have now also sealed the signature of talented Bodo/Glimt winger Mathias Jorgensen, who will be playing in England for the very first time.
Scandinavia has developed a habit of producing talented players who, more often than not, find their way into the EFL. There are high-profile names such as Erling Haaland, Christian Eriksen and Martin Odegaard, but lesser names are still dotted throughout the leagues, such as Derby’s Jacob Zetterstrom or West Brom’s Aune Selland Heggebo.
Jorgensen becomes the latest name to be added to this list. Acquired for an undisclosed fee on Friday morning, the Dane promises to bring fresh attacking impetus to a Rovers side that have scored fewer Championship goals (24) than they have played games (25).
Joining Bodo/Glimt halfway through the 2025 season, Jorgensen had a positive impact on the side, scoring five goals across all competitions as they finished an agonising one point behind title winners Viking.
Despite their runner-up status, a silver medal did not take away from Jorgensen’s performances - he impressed in a number of games across the campaign, and even netted his first, and so far only, Champions League goal in the qualification stages against Sturm Graz.
With the Norwegian Eliteserien currently in its off-season, Jorgensen has not played a competitive fixture since the 10th of December, in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund - as such, he will not be match fit and will certainly require a generous transition period if he is to properly adapt to the English game.
It appears that Blackburn have already thought ahead of this point, as they are now in talks with another Scandinavian in Norwegian Toulouse winger Aron Donnum, who has netted four times and assisted two more for the French Ligue 1 side this campaign.
Both Donnum and Jorgensen prefer to play on the right flank, meaning that once Jorgensen has completed his transitional period, he will be in direct competition with his Norwegian counterpart.

While Jorgensen’s transfer fee remains undisclosed, his market value sits at just under £2 million, while Donnum’s lies at an impressive £3.3 million. Going off these figures alone, it is likely that Donnum will be the first-choice right winger, with Jorgensen brought in as a more than capable backup or rotation player.
Regardless of his role, it is clear that both he and Donnum will bring new life to a stale Blackburn attack, and if they make an impact from the off, then there is still an outside chance that they can contend for promotion. After all, they only sit 13 points behind sixth placed Watford.
