It's a rule of thumb that every three years or so, Brazil produces a player called Wesley who, sooner or later, becomes linked with every club under the sun.
Wesley, the right-back, is in the midst of an excellent debut season at Roma, while former Aston Villa striker Wesley, who now plays for Shenzhen in China, used to be the talk of the town before the Premier League exposed his flaws.

Now, David Moyes’ Everton are on the tail of the new and improved Wesley, who plays at Al Nassr alongside the likes of Joao Felix, Sadio Mane and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo.
It can be hard to differentiate between the infinite number of Wesleys on the professional football scene, so we must provide further context.
Born in Sao Paolo, 20-year-old Wesley is just another on the endless conveyor belt of Brazilian stars for the future, a lineage that has been working overtime in recent years to produce the likes of Chelsea’s Willian Estevao and Andrey Santos, and Bournemouth’s new signing Rayan
Though Wesley has not entered the mainstream in such an attention-grabbing fashion as his compatriots, the attacker, who can play on either flank, has certainly shown plenty of promise in his short professional career so far.
He was a regular starter for Brazilian giants Corinthians at 17 and, just a year later, was purchased by money-spinning Saudi club Al-Nassr for an over-the-odds £15 million.
However, despite his high ceiling and obvious current ability, things have stalled for the youngster in the Middle East – in 40 appearances for the club, he has netted just five times, and has assisted a meagre four, failing to deliver on the promise he showed in South America.
Of course, it doesn’t help when you play for the club with arguably the best attacking lineup in the Saudi Pro League - with Kingsley Coman, Mane, Ronaldo and Felix all ahead of him in the pecking order, full 90s are few and far between, limiting his impact on the field.
Understandably, the Brazilian is looking for a move away from the club in a bid to get more minutes, and if the latest rumours are to be believed, it is reported that the winger has agreed to personal terms with Everton.
The Toffees lie in a solid 10th place in the Premier League, and are more within reach of the European places, sitting just five points back from fifth-placed Chelsea. The right-wing position has been something of a dilemma for Moyes this season, with Dwight McNiel and Tyler Dibling both failing to nail down a starting spot.

Wesley’s introduction to the team could be exactly what the side needs to get their right flank firing, and with striker Thierno Barry finally finding some scoring form, the Brazilian’s pace, trickery and service could give the Toffees the platform they need for a surprise European push.
The Liverpool-based club have actually been interested in Wesley since 2023, submitting an £8 million bid for him that summer, and it seems their long-term persistence is about to pay off. Though a fee is yet to be agreed, settling on personal terms is a big step in the right direction.
