Fans of Nigerian side Kano Pillars were left raging over a late penalty that condemned the side to a 1-1 draw with Shooting Stars, leading to a fiery pitch invasion in protest of a refereeing decision that ultimately decided the game.
The referee on the day made the controversial decision to award a penalty to the visitors in the 94th minute of play, which was ultimately converted by Adam Mustapha to steal a point away from the game with Kano Warriors languishing near the bottom of the table in the Nigerian Premier League.
The incident ended up with the reported assault of Shooting Star's substitute Ismail Adoyele, and with Kano Warrior's General Manager Ahmed Musa condemning the incident and apologising to fans and officials alike.
Former Leicester City striker and Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, who serves as the general manager for Kano Warriors, was quick to condemn the incident in the press in the hours following the full-time melee:
“What transpired against Shooting Stars is heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable. It does not represent the true values, identity, or the proud history of Kano Pillars.

“This club has always stood for community, passion, and respect, values that must never be overshadowed by violence or indiscipline. As a club with deep roots and loyal supporters, we are expected to set an example of fairness and honour on and off the pitch. Sadly, today, we fell far short of that standard.
“Once again, on behalf of Kano Pillars Football Club, I offer my most heartfelt and unreserved apology to everyone affected. To the NPFL, to Shooting Stars, to the referees, to the fans of Nigerian football, and to anyone who believes in the spirit of the game, we are sorry. I am sorry.”
Kano Warriors had been incensed by a poor display by the referee, who had reportedly denied the hosts of two "clear-cut" penalties whilst denying a further goal, adding the final blow by affording the visitors a lifeline-well-taken in the final moments of the game with a penalty of their own.
Next up for Shooting Stars is a clash against Abia Warriors, while Kano Pillars battle out with Barau FC on Sunday.
