Canadian international Derek Cornelius has sealed a deadline day move to Rangers, leaving Olympique Marseille on loan with an option to buy for the Scottish club.

The 187 cm centre back, whose professional career has spanned six countries including Greece, Serbia and the MLS, played 23 times for Marseille last season, helping them seal a second place finish in Ligue 1, along with Champions League qualification.
Cornelius becomes Rangers' fourth centre back signing of the window after Keiran Tierney, Hayato Inamura and Jahmai Smimpson-Pusey, as Russell Martin looks to shore up the backline after their shock elimination from the Champions League.
With wide-ranging experience, and with top division European football on his CV, Cornelius represents a smart, budget-wary signing, costing the club nothing and providing an opportunity to sign him at the end of the season should he prove to be a success in Glasgow.
Derek, si on est en LDC cette année, c'est aussi grâce à ton sauvetage dingue à la 90e au Havre. Ici on oubliera pas 🫡 #Cornelius #TeamOM pic.twitter.com/GXx6KG6IPR

However, Cornelius may not be the only deadline day signing we see for the Scottish giants, who are also competing with bitter rivals Celtic for the signature of Crystal Palace starlet Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
Four games into the regular Scottish Premiership season, Rangers lie in a poor seventh place, drawing all of their first four matches, and conceding three goals in the process. Hopefully, the arrival of Cornelius will stabalise things at the back.
