Former Hornet's Star Set for Vicarage Road Return

With Watford’s Championship form finally starting to get out of first gear, the January transfer window presents the perfect opportunity to maintain that upward trajectory through the introduction of fresh ambition and renewed impetus.

Countless nostalgic names have passed through Vicarage Road, including the likes of Roberto Pereyra, Odion Ighalo, Gerard Deolufeu and Emmanuel Dennis - it seems to be the go-to destination for “streets won’t forget” ballers - and on the eve of the transfer window opening, it seems the Hornets are preparing to welcome yet another memorable name.

That is because former player Domingos Quina looks set for a return, and has been rumoured to be looking at properties in the surrounding area …

Who is Domingos Quina?

Currently playing for Cypriot League leaders and Champions League outsiders Pafos FC, 26-year-old Quina is already familiar with the Watford set-up, having spent two and a half seasons in North West London between 2018 and 2021.

The Portuguese national, who initially came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, also lists Fulham, West Ham, Granada and Udinese as some of his former employers, and has been capped 34 times for Portugal’s youth sides - while at Watford, was seen as one of the nation’s most exciting future prospects.

However, things have not panned out as planned, as the attacking midfielder, who can also play on the left, has notched just 15 career goals in 163 appearances, a poor return for one whose job revolves around scoring and creating.

In spite of his limited returns, Watford fans will fondly remember one of those 15 goals, an absolute firecracker against Reading back in August 2018 which needs to be seen to be believed.

His 58 appearances at Pafos is the most he has played for any one side in his career, but it seems that Quina is once again looking to move on, a trend that has followed him throughout a career that has already seen him play for 10 different clubs.

While he may not provide the raw scoring ability that Watford need at times, his brilliance on the ball and rapid pace have the potential to cause havoc in the Championship, and the fact that he is returning to a club which for three years he called home means the ‘bedding-in’ period would need to be just that much shorter.

A move to keep an eye on, this one.
