The 28 year old has made 77 appearances for the Latics, netting 10 goals. Smith has had spellls at various clubs in the EFL such as Burton Albion, Swindown Town, Tranmere Rovers, and Bristol City, making him a hugely experienced player for his age.
Gillingham currently sit top of League Two after 6 games. Thus far, the side have brought in 3 players from Championship sides Hull City and Bristol City. Their intention is clear, they want promotion. Adding a former Championship and League One winger into their squad will be sure to help bolster their push.
Gillingham have a blend of youth and experience in their squad currently, with former Burnley talisman Sam Vokes being accompanied by millennial attackers. The addition of Jonny Smith will help bridge the gap between youth and experience for the Gills, and with Smith entering his prime years at 28, he will be sure to make an impact at the Priestfield Stadium.
Sam Vokes came off the bench to score the winner as #Gills sealed their first away league win of the season against Oldham.

Our report ⤵️
After appointing former Wycombe and QPR manager Gareth Ainsworth in March 2025, the Gills are looking to make a name for themselves as they storm through League Two. The signing of Johnny Smith before the deadline will be sure to do this.
