Jack Harrison has puzzled a great number of football fans with his career path over the last three years or so.
One of Leeds United’s most consistent players despite relegation in 2023, Harrison moved to Everton on loan for the 2023/24 season, and impressed enough to have that loan extended for a further campaign.

Called back into the Leeds starting eleven this season, it has only taken the Englishman 13 games to find another loan move, only this time it means moving abroad, with relegation-threatened Serie A side Fiorentina his latest destination.
Why do Leeds constantly loan Harrison out? There is no doubt that during his two-season spell with Everton he would have been one of Leeds' best players in the Championship, and as a club looking to earn promotion and Premier League status, it baffles me that they didn’t keep one of their most reliable forwards at the club.
Harrison didn’t exactly thrive at Everton either, with the second stint not benefitting either the player or the club. He contributed to a middling seven goals in his first season, but provided just a further one in the second half of his spell - there is no doubt that both Leeds and Harrison would have been better served sticking together in the Championship.
This season, it finally looked like Harrison was being welcomed back into the fold; though not necessarily the first name on the teamsheet, he has made eleven appearances in the league, one in the League Cup and one in the FA Cup.
However, his form has taken a heavy hit since his last campaign in a white shirt. The last time he competed at Elland Road, he was in the midst of his best season ever, scoring six goals and assisting 10 in 42 games. In this campaign, he has zero of both in 13 competitive fixtures.
So, while his loans to Everton were somewhat baffling, this latest move to Fiorentina makes a lot more sense. He has failed to assert himself at Leeds, and with the Whites sitting eight points clear of the relegation zone, they don’t really need him.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, are in desperate need of fresh blood. Despite finishing sixth last season, and just five points outside the Champions League places, they have encountered serious struggles in attempting to replicate that form this season, as they lie in 18th.
That sat bottom as recently as New Year’s Day, and while one loss in their last five games has certainly improved their predicament, there needs to be a serious tactical rethink at the club.

Harrison arrives as part of this rethink - he possesses boundless energy, has excellent technique and, while he has failed to display these traits on a regular basis this season, has an eye for a defence-splitting pass, and a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
With his move to Fiorentina a loan deal with a €10 million option to buy, Harrison will be given a new lease of life in Italy - with the recent escapades of Scott McTominay, Christian Pulisic and Romelu Lukaku in Italy, Harrison could become another in a long list of former Premier League players to thrive in the Italian top flight.
