Who doesn't love a surprise signing in football?
Few will forget Manchester United picking up two surprising striker options in almost as many seasons, with former Watford star Odion Ighalo and Dutch giant Wout Weghorst making their way to Old Trafford to help plug gaps.
Or maybe you prefer former Sunderland forward Steven Fletcher making an eyebrow-raising switch to Ligue 1 to ply his trade for Marseille on loan for half a season. The fact is, surprise signings are normally down the line of memorable names making big moves that don't often materialise into anything worthwile.
But over in Bavaria, one Vincent Kompany could lining up a surprising bid for a Premier League defender that few would see coming, but just may be a masterstroke from the Belgian.
According to TEAMTALK, Leeds United centre-back Joe Rodon has a long-admirer in Vincent Kompany, who currently serves as the manager of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
The Wales centre back has been a brilliant signing for Daniel Farke's side and played an instrumental role in their promotion back to the Premier League last season as the winners of the EFL Championship. Since stepping back into the top-flight, where he previously found opportunities limited within at Tottenham Hotspur, he has made the step-up look simple with a string of fantastic displays in his wake with Leeds grabbing a respectable eight points from eight games.

Speaking in a press conference, Wales manager Craig Bellamy spoke of Kompany's long-standing interest in Rodon:
“He’s a very, very good footballer. I know I’ve spoken about him on a number of occasions – no surprise. He has all the attributes that belong in the Premier League.
“I’ve been a big fan of him for a number of years. I do follow Welsh players, and I’ve always had a huge soft spot for Welsh players, so I’ve really watched their progress.
“He’s a player I’ve had my eye on. When we myself and Vincent Kompany were at Burnley, we wanted to bring him in. We obviously felt, and I’ve always felt, he was a player ready-made for that high level. What we’re seeing now is that player.”
