Premier League’s Super Sunday brought in five very entertaining matches, with 14 goals coming in across them.
Football Park are here to give you the main stories from each game and how it affects the league table.
Haaland Brace Sees City Fly Through the Eagles
Manchester City had a relatively straightforward time as they glided past Crystal Palace in the capital on Sunday afternoon. This doesn’t mean it came without any issues, however.
Yeremy Pino had the first big chance of the game, after he broke through the City defence but he couldn’t quite find the target as his shot bounced off the crossbar. The visitors found themselves rather fortunate to have the lead heading into the break, as the inevitable Erling Haaland headed one in at the far post thanks to Matheus Nunez’ pinpoint cross.
Pep Guardiola’s side doubled their lead on the 69th minute winner after Phil Foden tucked away a rebound following Tijjani Reijnders’ parried shot as the English playmaker fired home from close range. Haaland then grabbed his second of the afternoon from the penalty spot with minutes remaining to see the Cityzens dispatch Palace in some style.
City now remain within two points of leaders Arsenal, who would’ve dropped out of top spot if it wasn’t for a stoppage-time own goal on Saturday evening. For Palace, they fail to keep their fourth place and will drop to sixth if Manchester United beat Bournemouth on Monday evening.
Forest Thumping as Spurs Struggles Continue
Guglielmo Vicario had a Sunday to forget at The City Ground after gifting Forest the easiest but most deserved three points they have had all season.
A horrible lapse of judgement from the Italian shot-stopper gifted ex-Chelsea talent Callum Hudson-Odoi an opening goal on the half hour mark before he added a second shortly after the break, through a stunning strike from outside the box.
Then with ten minutes to go Ibrahim Sangare launched a thunderous shot from the edge which flew in off the right post – which Vicario actually couldn’t do much about to be fair to him.
The victory sees Forest extend their gap to the relegation to five points, while Spurs miss out on a chance to creep into the top half.
Woltemade Howler on Tyne-Wear Return
Nick Woltemade mistake just seconds after the interval saw the Black Cats gifted three important points and the all-important bragging rights as the Tyne-Wear derby made its return to the Premier League stage for the first time since 2016.
There wasn’t all too much to speak of in the first half, aside from the ferocious sound of the crowd watching on as the hosts had an excellent touch of pettiness on their scoreboard which read: “Sunderland 1-0 Visitors.”
Something we need more of in football is what Sunderland did today.

The game has gone too soft, but you’ve got to be fully behind Sunderland on this one. 👏 pic.twitter.com/wDhpD9oeKw
It took just seconds for the first and only goal of the match to be scored in the second period, as Woltemade potentially forgot they had even switched sides. The German thumped home an attempted headed clearance from Nordi Mukiele’s teasing cross, which flew past a helpless Aaron Ramsdale.
The victory continues Sunderland’s fantastic start to the topflight as they move into seventh place, while Newcastle’s first defeat in five games sees them stay in 12th.
Rogers Brace Sees Villa Edge Thriller
A Morgan Rogers second half brace was enough to see Aston Villa complete a magnificent turnaround at the London Stadium to move within three points of Arsenal, while West Ham remain in 18th, three points off Leeds.
It was a very quick start in the capital, as the Hammers were gifted a lead inside just 29 seconds after Mateus Fernandes won the ball easily off Ezri Konsa to fire past Villa ‘keeper Marco Bizot. It took just eight minutes, however, for Villa to restore parity with help from the opposition of their own, as Konstantinos Mavropanos turned a cross into his own net from John McGinn.
Hammers talisman Jarrod Bowen found the target after diverting a volley in from Freddie Potts. The game really fired up in the second half, as Rogers made it 2-2 inside just five minutes of the half from close range. Bowen then later had a goal disallowed for offside before Rogers scored his second of the afternoon to hand the visitors all three points in the claret and blue derby.
Bees Hold on as Home Fortress Remains Unbreached
Moving onto the main event of Sunday afternoon, we headed to the Gtech Community Stadium as Brentford hosted an in-form Leeds side who looked to continue their strong form.
Leeds largely dominated the game in terms of chances, taking 11 more attempts on goal than the hosts despite possession disadvantage. The Bees were initially awarded a penalty on the stroke of half time, but VAR overturned the decision to see scores level heading into the break.
Jordan Henderson broke the deadlock with his first topflight goal since 2021 with 20 minutes left on the clock, as his deflected effort gave the hosts a crucial lead heading into the dying stages. Leeds were rescued just ten minutes later, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header earned a point for the visitors as he found the net for a fourth straight time.
The draw moves Brentford up to 14th, while Leeds extend the gap to the relegation zone to three points.
