Reading are exploring a move for wantaway Wrexham striker Jack Marriott, according to Football League World.
Marriott, 30, joined Wrexham in February 2024 from Fleetwood Town, after a strong Football League career spent with the likes of Derby County and Peterborough beforehand.
The English striker has made 26 league appearances for The Red Dragons, finding the net on six occasions, but is deemed surplus to requirements as Wrexham seek to cut down their bloated squad ahead of the looming registration deadline.
Marriott would bring experience and ability to a Reading frontline sorely missing Harvey Knibbs - The Royals' top scorer last season was sold this summer to Championship side Charlton Athletic.
Few will be able to forget Jack Marriott's antics as part of the Championship. His brace at Elland Road, that propelled Frank Lampard's Derby County team into the playoff final in 2019, has gone down as one of the more iconic playoff moments.

After a move to Phil Parkinson's Wrexham side in 2024, with the club then plying their trade in League Two, Marriott applied his skills well through limited showings, scoring seven goals in two seasons to play a part in back-to-back promotions for the club, sending them into the Championship at the end of last season.
Six of those goals all arrived in the third tier last season from 26 overall appearances - just nine of them were starting features.
Marriott's goal return as a bit-part player hasn't exactly dazzled all at the SToK Cae Ras, though, and the 30-year-old has not featured in either of Wrexham's opening two Championship matches - losses to Southampton and West Bromwich Albion.
Jack Marriott has made 140 appearances in League One and scored 51 goals and 8 assists.

I’d take that over our current options. So it would be a sensible signing as we also need a target for midfield to hit. pic.twitter.com/x4Ix0ynhjZ
Reading, his likely new suitors, have made a poor start to proceedings in League One, losing their opening three whilst scoring just one solitary goal. Marriott, who made his name at Peterborough at that level with 27 league goals in Posh's 17/18 campaign, would bring experience and tact that The Royal's have been sorely lacking at the start of this season.
Furthermore, the arrival of Marriott is unlikely to be one that would break the bank, and his goal-to-start ratio in red last season may display that the former Derby man still carries a spark that Reading could exploit successfully.
