Swansea Make Move for Celtic's Idah

Celtic striker Adam Idah is moving closer to a return to the Championship, as Swansea City eye a move for the Norwich youth academy product.

The rumour comes after Celtic’s shock Champions League qualifying elimination at the hands of Kazakhstani champions Kairat Almaty, in which Idah failed to register a single shot on goal across both legs despite playing more than 45 minutes in each game.

Idah left the Championship to play for Celtic on an initial loan deal in 2023/24, which was made permanent at the end of that season. However, after an impressive first season as a Bhoy’s player, Idah’s lackluster start to this campaign has led both club and player to search for alternative solutions.

Why Didn’t it Work Out for Idah at Celtic?

Brought to Celtic from Norwich for £8.2 Million last summer after the Irishman netted nine goals in 19 games during a successful loan spell, Idah appeared to be the Bhoy’s new long term striking option.

However, despite 20 goals in 53 games in all competitions last season, Idah regularly came under criticism for his wastefulness in front of goal, and at times what could be perceived as a lack of effort.

Swansea’s interest is effectively a timely escape route for the Irish striker - a chance to start afresh, and to reinvent himself on the pitch. However, Idah would only leave Celtic if the Hoops can find a replacement before the end of the transfer window - and Brendan Rodgers side are already on the search, reportedly showing interest in Hammarby winger Sebastian Tounekti.
