Aston Villa and Everton take to our screens on Super Sunday, the home side hoping to maintain their impressive form under Unai Emery.
Villa comes into this having won their last eight consecutive home league matches, a run stretching to the end of September. They face an Everton side that has dealt with a host of issues of late, ranging from international absences to suspensions for pulling hair.
The Toffees have won four of their ten league matches on the road, defeating Nottingham Forest at The City Ground in their previous away fixture. History shows that Everton has had no luck on their recent travels to Villa Park in the Premier League, last claiming victory here in 2016.
We have put together both value bet and longshot bet builders for this fixture, based on the data provided by our team of in-house experts. Play it safe with Home Win: The odds lie heavily with Villa to maintain their strong home form. Striker Ollie Watkins looks back to his best in front of goal, whilst Morgan Rogers continues to strengthen his claims for the World Cup side with his level of performances . Villa has scored 33 Premier League goals this season, significantly surpassing their xG of 25.7. For an attacking force full of confidence, it is hard to see Everton keeping them at bay, hindered by the suspension of Michael Keane in defense .
Speaking of Rogers, the midfielder has registered 40 shots in the Premier League this season, averaging just shy of two shots per 90 minutes. He has registered at least two shots in his last five matches across all competitions. The home factor here justifies confidence that he will follow suit in this fixture, having registered three of his seven league goals at Villa Park this campaign.
Enjoy it, but Enjoyed it by being Disciplined: Thank you, Neil. We are hoping that neither of these sides keeps their cool on the weekend. The history of this fixture gives good reason to believe that cards will be flying about. Both sides have received a card in the last nine occasions in this matchup at Villa Park, pretty good going, I must say. Whilst neither of these sides is near the top of the charts for yellow cards received in the league this season, this fixture has a feisty feeling to it, and we are siding with the card bet.
Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has been a standout performer in the Toffees' midfield under David Moyes. Having failed to make his mark at Aston Villa, the 22-year-old will be eager to impress against his former club, leading to a very interesting battle in the midfield. Iroegbunam is known for getting stuck in, picking up seven yellow cards in 17 matches. Averaging well over a foul per game, we reckon this is a pretty safe selection to complete our value bet builder.
Goals, Goals, Goals: It can't just be us hoping for goals. You may be thinking at least four goals is a big ask, but there is reasonable method behind our madness. Aston Villa has scored 12 goals in their last home league matches, with more than half of their league goals coming at Villa Park. A well-oiled machine under Emery welcomes an Everton side that has been on the end of some thrashings this season.
The Toffees shipped three goals at home to Tottenham, then leaked four goals to Newcastle and fell to an Igor Thiago hat trick against Brentford. A common theme in the Newcastle and Brentford defeats has been the fight shown by Everton. The last meeting between the two ended 3-2 to the home side, and we are hoping for something along the same lines here.
Cards, Cards, Cards: We have already touched on the discipline in this fixture, but we are taking it one step further with this selection. In the last three matches, there have been a minimum of six cards shown, shared across both sides.
If the cards are flying, then expect Nathan Patterson to be in the mix. The Scottish defender has hardly had a sniff in the side this season, though he has featured and impressed in both appearances against Nottingham Forest and Sunderland. With the list of absentees in the side, we expect Patterson to be given the nod. Patterson was notably booked in his last appearance at Villa Park, and we are rooting for the Scotsman to keep up his antics.
Watkins on Fire: Ollie Watkins looks back to his usual self in front of goal, having scored one goal in his first 13 Premier League appearances this season. He has since scored four goals in his last four league matches, and will be licking his lips at the thought of a leaky Everton defence. Watkins scored a brace to lead his side to victory the last time the two met at Villa Park.
