Failed wonder-kid set to leave Spurs this summer

20/05/24 15:56

Spurs wing-back Ryan Sessegnon will leave the club this summer, having played just seven minutes of football this season, coming off the bench in the third round of the FA Cup against Burnley.

The 24-year-old joined Spurs from Fulham in 2019 in a deal worth around £25 million. While in North London, he has not had an easy time, making just 38 league appearances in five seasons.

Injuries have more than played their part, especially this season as he suffered a set-back in a game for Tottenham’s under-21 team in February, ending his season prematurely.

Despite his injury record, there appears to be a lot of interest for Sessegnon, both in England and abroad. The wing-back spent the 2020/21 season on loan in Germany with Hoffenheim, so a move to the Bundesliga will not be off the cards.

Sessegnon has expressed his desire to stay in the Premier League so there is also a possibility that he could reunite with Fulham, especially if they were to lose Antonee Robinson this summer.

Sessegnon started his career with the Cottagers and became the first professional player born in the 2000s to score in the football league, netting against Cardiff City in August 2016.

He has not lived up to the hype that surrounded him when he burst onto the scene, but at just 24 years old, there is still plenty of time for him to get his career back on track.
