Genoa look to Bring Back Second String West Ham Winger

West Ham’s late wheeling and dealing looks set to continue this transfer window, with their latest reports indicating they are looking to offload out of favour winger Maxwell Cornet on loan to Italian side Genoa.

The Hammers confirmed the signings of midfielder Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa yesterday, and are now looking to trim down the deadwood in their squad - Cornet’s move to Genoa would see him return to the side at which he spent the second half of last season.

Though he played just seven times for Genoa, who finished 13th in Serie A in 2025, he proved effective from the wing, netting twice and assisting one, ensuring that should a return materialise, he will be welcomed back to Northern Italy.

A Smart Move For The Irons

Cornet arrived at West Ham in the summer of 2022, coming off the back of a red hot season with Burnley in which he netted nine times and assisted a further two, form which earnt him a move to East London for an undisclosed fee.

However, the Ivorian struggled to nail down a starting place for the Irons, failing to score in 21 appearances for the club in his first season. While he did break his duck in his second campaign there, he failed to impress, and was shipped off to Southampton on loan at the start of last season.

Making just four appearances for the Saints by Christmas, Cornet was recalled and cast out to Genoa, where his luck improved slightly. Though injury ridden, he started to find some form in Italy, and made a good enough impression for the side to ignite further interest this summer. At the moment, the deal looks set to be a vanilla loan move, but there is the possibility that the Hammers could add a buy option to the deal.
