Hatters Bolster Striker Depth with Young Starlet

Luton Town have agreed a deal worth £300k for the services of Gillingham forward Joseph Gbode, as per Football League World.

Matt Bloomfield’s side has already gained the signatures of Nahki Wells and Jerry Yates this window; Ali Al-Hamadi is also linked with a move to Bedford this deadline day. The 20-year-old is currently undergoing a medical assessment at Kenilworth Road.

Luton Finally Seal Forward's Signature at Third Attempt

The recent Premier League side has already had two bids rejected for the League Two striker, who has played for the Gills since he was 14. Although fans of the Kent side might be disappointed that their club's stubbornness has not resulted in a larger fee for the high-potential youngster.

The departure of Carlton Morris called for a striker revamp this summer, yet eight goals in six League One games for the Hatters has called for further backup. Especially with Cauley Woodrow making the switch to Wycombe Wanderers.

Gbode has started just once for Gillingham so far this campaign, often featuring as a substitute, but this will still be a big blow for the side, who sit top of the League Two table. The forward is far from the finished product; four goals in 58 appearances for the Gills says enough regarding his current attacking prowess.

Luton and Bloomfield see this signing as ‘one for the future’, a cheap and smart investment that could eventually have a huge payout. Gbode is an exciting prospect with the potential to be crafted into an EFL star in the future.
